Jackie Rexrode Never had 400 AB's in a season, was a utility IF, and wasnt a real prospect coming up through the minors if I recall. He was also sub 6 feet and like 160 lbs. Michael has a much brighter future than Rexrode.

*****Consider the source, I am totally biased.

You're right, agent; my comparison was just an off-the-top-of-my head effort to find a better comp for Brantley than Scotty Runfast; Rexrode is kind of the template for the high-OBP, low-SLG prospect. Brantley is one of my favorite players, and I have high hopes for him, but it's always hard to be impartial and sometimes I suspect that I over-correct.

How would Brantley's high .300 to near .400 OBP compare him to Pods' career OBP of .333 with only one year above .351. I think he projects as a much better hitter than Pods.

It'd be nice to get Weeks out of that leadoff spot at some point in the future as I think it really stymies him as an offensive player.

Don't get me wrong, he's a fine leadoff man so long as he can get on base at a .380 or so clip(the .374 from last year that I expect him to build on being my reference), however if you could have a guy like Brantley who could post an OBP in the upper 300's, and move Weeks to the 5th spot(or even 3, though talk of that is obviously premature) I think it'd make him a much more productive hitter.

He just takes too many 1st pitch strikes. Pitches that I assume he used to drive a bit more. And on that front, I'd rather see him around a .285/.365 mark than the .240/.375 he was last year as I think it'd lead to more runs.

But anyway, that's not the point. The point is, I hope that Brantley can one day become that leadoff hitter we need. Just not sure if he can at this point.

I agree that Brantley looks like an ideal leadoff hitter in a lot of ways. To me his numbers make him look like a better prospect than Gwynn Jr. He walks a ton, does not strike out, he steals some bases. If only he he could generate a little more power because like one of the posters said pitchers will probably nibble less if they dont fear his bat. The more I look at his stats, his age, and even that he is a lefty bat, I like what I see in the guy. I honestly believe the first four guys in that order will be starting or playing significant roles on this the big league club. LaPorta is just sick right now. Gamel is raking but he is being overshadowed by LaPorta and questions about his defense, Escobar is starting hit a little better but showed in Spring Training he was someone to watch and then add in Brantley and even Salome. Enjoy it while it lasts Huntsville fans.

Just to add to the running theme of Brantley.......... this was a pretty cool read.

"Our View:Brantley has prototypical leadoff skills and could be a huge fantasy producer as early as next season. He is hitting .375 with seven steals and an outstanding 13/5 BB/K ratio this season, which is a strong follow-up on his 2007 season in which he hit .296 with a 60/47 BB/K ratio and 35 steals. He may not have the speed of some elite major leaguers, but his on-base skills could still make him a 30-40 base stealer with regular playing time. "

Brewer Fanatic Staff

Josh hasn't posted much in terms of Brewer updates, but his most recent post is interesting enough to remind folks that if they want to follow him more regularly, to add his blog to your favorites list.

Busy time for him obviously, both as pre-draft "advisor" and agent to current players, and no, I'm not aware of the player who was recently suspended that he mentions. The most recent name was a high-profile name, Braves top prospect Jordan Schafer, who I don't believe is a DDSM client.

It wasnt Schafer, it was Yankees LHP prospect Angel Reyes. I appreciate the post. Ill have some more draft/brewers news as soon as things cool down. We're advising a very high end prospect this year and it's a lot of work. Talk to you all soon!

PS Taylor Green hit his 4th homer. Told you the power would come!

Nothing yet but I may sign a few. Lorenzo Cain to AAA tonight. Enjoy the scoop.

Wow, really? I was wondering what they were going to do with him with all the OF spots at Huntsville taken up.

Hey agent39,

Thanks for all the updates/blog links. Taylor Green is someone I'm worried about losing. He can play 2b or 3b, he is putting up the best Brevard County numbers we've seen. His only limitation is height. With Brantley, I've long loved his plate discipline. If either of these two winds up being part of the deal, please let them know that many of us have enjoyed tracking their minor league careers from draft/DFE signing. I know that when I've spoken with players in the AFL, they appreciated knowing that many of us internet dorks were eagerly following their careers.

I don't get the drama, no one can mention who the PTBNL is. Sadly, it was leaked out, I assume by the Tribe, but that's neither here nor there.

Both Brantley and Green are members of the Brewers until they are informed differently...just like the 170 other guys under contract. I'm sure most players wish they were good enough to be considered.

If I had to pick one, I think I would pick Brantley as my preference to lose. It still is questionable if he can really play CF, and if he can't then he's stuck in that same logjam behind Braun, Hart, Gamel, Gillespie, Nelson, etc., for those corner OF spots. The Brewers could really use a LH 3B, so I hope Green is the one who stays.

On the bright side, it is looking more and more like they will not be losing Lucroy, and I think as a C he would have more trade value than Brantley or Green if he can maintain this level of hitting in AA. Look at the haul that ATL got for Saltalamacchia.
