DDSM (Double Diamond Sports Management)

Bryson read the story, he's a good dude. I laughed when he said he was interviewing with a Brewers affiliate, I knew he'd get hired if I went with him. I was happy to help, and thank you. I hope everyone had a nice holiday.

Also, I got proposed a reality show opportunity where people like Bryson compete for an internship with my company. Not sure if I'm pursuing this but its a thing.

I talked to Josh a couple of days ago, he's recuperating from fairly major surgery, but he's doing well. He's picked up some more new clients, and he's ready to get another season underway.

He and I talked about Jeremy Jeffress, he said, "The reason I stuck with him through all of it, was because he always wanted to be great. He wasn't stupid, he just had a problem, and once the problem was figured out, now you see it. A player has to want to be great, and they have to do the work - Jeremy always had that."

New bp story included a gem on Leal

The last is one of the strangest stories I have been part of in 13 years. Carlos Leal was a 34th-round pick by Milwaukee last year out of D2 Delta State. Carlos was a catcher in college and immediately moved to the mound, where he put up the not-stellar 8.53 ERA in six innings. His arm strength is quite obviously stellar, though. During winter ball he and the Brewers decided to try him back at catcher, given his lack of success on the mound and the fact that everyone needs catchers. Carlos is 23 years old and skipped all the way to the MWL. As of now he is hitting .340 and leading all MWL catchers in just about everything. He has thrown out eight of 17 baserunners and has thrown close to 100 mph from behind the dish. This is the first prospect i have ever seen go from the mound to behind the dish. Carlos plays with two of my clients and just happened to ask them about me. We spoke on the phone, hit it off, and in the first week he scored a BG contract and a wonderful contract with All-Star Catchers Gear, meaning he won't have to pay for his gear ever again. For a kid who signed for $1K, it means so very much.

Using some deductive reasoning on this one -- apologies if it proves incorrect:

We all know our own "agent 39", Joshua Kusnick, who has had a long-standing relationship with the Brewers, that now seemingly extends beyond the Doug Melvin era.

His early Sunday AM tweets:

TWEET: Brewers fans owe me a party or something for the amount of guys I send there. I swear I crossed them off months ago and it still happened

TWEET: Cant wait til news breaks by @Hau or @AdamMcCalvy And yet another Priority 6 year fa sent to MIL by Joshua Kusnick

*mis-type of @Haudricourt above

TWEET: Leaving LA after mlbpa meeting. Saw family, @TherealAsuaje20 got traded and headed to mlb camp and 3 am est finished another fa deal. #Mil

In that last tweet, the conversation includes this from Josh:

TWEET: Guy w more than year mlb time. 6 year fa. Ive now sent the jeffress chapman herndon t green player x im sure more

So if we sort MLB Trade Rumors Agent Data Base by agency, then search on Josh's Double Diamond Sports Management (that's not all Josh's clients, but ones with big league connections), then cross-reference against Baseball America's List of MiLB Free Agents, we do get a match.

33-year-old RHP Jim Miller (Baseball Cube page, which shows major and minor league stats on same page), nice 2012 big league season with Oakland, very strong 2015 AAA numbers with AAA Durham (Rays)

Add another reason for Josh to be excited?

Josh penned this last March, learn how the cool agent-player relationship came about. It was picked up by Fox Sports and posted here:

Jim Miller has a dream -- and now has a deal

Joshua Kusnick

Be sure to click on that link -- it's a fine read. The Tampa Bay Times followed up with their own version of events.

I've sent a message to Josh asking for a confirmation, he may not be able to, waiting instead for the Brewers to announce the signing.

Also not sure if the signing includes a big league camp invite, or what the Brewers consider an "early minor league camp invite", as RHP Jaye Chapman just received (another Kusnick client, as noted in Adam McCalvy's November 2014 article here).

Miller would make sense for the Brewers, in that he, like Chapman, would be a fine choice to stabilize a Colorado Springs bullpen while other young arms develop. And if he shines, a big league shot (again, to bide time for younger arms - Magnifico, Barnes, etc.) isn't out of the question.

***

Disclaimer -- I'm not a professional journalist (despite the hefty Brewerfan salary ;)), so unlike Adam or Tom, I'm not left to uphold all the formal confirmations and bells and whistles. If the situation here has been completely mis-read, again, my apologies. But this is all part of the fun of "Fan Forum" and Hot Stove season, right?

And if it's all correct -- Welcome Aboard, Jim!

I suppose we couldn't get any insight as to Carlos Leal's absence during ST, could we??? :) Even knowing if its injury related or not would be nice. Or perhaps long term/short term absence?

Injury, nothing structural, not expected to be a super-prolonged absence.
