OK, for discussion. How's your French? Is this Alex's first formal representation?

 

Let's say any individual member of the Brewer organization approached you and wanted you to represent him. Is that an automatic for you, or do you do your own background checks and such to see if the relationship is a good match? What would be a possible reason you would not agree to represent a potential client? I would imagine you would need to discuss short-term and long-term goals and philosophies with the potential client.

 

Dustin Pedroia is taking a lot of heat for signing a team-friendly extension with Boston, leaving perhaps as much as $30 million on the table over the life of the deal (if he had gone year-to-year). I imagine his agent will hear from the Gene Orza's and such about deflating future value of other superstar contracts. Should you be fortunate enough to represent a client of that ilk in the future, what are your thoughts on the Scott Boras year-to-year maximize everything via arbitration vs. the Evan Longoria / Ryan Braun / Pedroia signings? The Longoria signing was ridiculously premature, wasn't it?

3rd 40 man member (also have Omar Aguilar/Luis Pena) , my french is non existant, not alex's first agent, Ive turned down Brewers before, definately do background checks on everyone we sign from all organizations, and the last part, I am a huge fan of maximizing value.

Scott Boras just tries to get as much money for his guys as he can. He isn't doing anything wrong most of the time. It isn't Boras' fault the Brewers don't have the resources to offer the most money to players.

A-Rod had to go around Boras' back because Boras was ignoring A-Rod desire to play in New York. I believe Kenny Rogers fired Boras because Boras tried selling Rogers to every team but the Tigers - when all Kenny wanted was to play for the Detroit Tigers.

 

Boras cares more about the dollar amounts than his players happiness. Nothing wrong with getting paid, but Boras' methods are certainly questionable.

Josh, what is Periard hitting on his fastball? Do you think he has room to add any more velocity? Gord Ash said during '08 spring training that Periard was hitting "the mid 90's" but we mostly saw reports he was in the low 90's and high 80's. Did his velocity drop as the year went down, or was it maybe a slight exaggeration on Gord's part?
