Recent Helena Brewer Press Release:

Keep in mind these numbers have updated in recent days...

The Milwaukee system is brimming with former Helena Brewers that are now excelling at other rungs on the minor league ladder. Class-A is stocked with former Helena farm-hands and now the upper levels of the organization are beginning to have their rosters filled with former Queen City players.

The West Virginia Power, Milwaukee's Low-A affiliate in the South Atlantic League is currently 7-10 on the season. Last season's Pioneer League MVP Angel Salome has picked up where he left off in 2005. The slugging catcher is currently batting .348 with seven doubles and 10 RBI in 17 games. Infielder Kenny Holmberg currently leads the team with three homers and is batting .333. On the mound, former Brewers have put up terrific numbers starting with teenage power pitcher Will Inman. The Virginia native is 2-0 with a 1.08 ERA with 19 K's in 16.2 innings pitched for the Power in the early season. Aussie southpaw David Welch has allowed only six hits in 13.0 innings and has a 1.38 ERA. Welch is holding opponents to a measly .130 batting average.

Milwaukee's High-A affiliate, the Brevard County Manatees , have paced the Florida State League with a 13-6 record. 2004 Helena MVP Steve Sollmann has been hitting at a torrid streak with a batting average of .383. Last season's first-round draft pick Ryan Braun leads the club with 15 RBI. Righty Josh Wahpepah has been stellar on the mound but unlucky in the record department in 2006. The sinkerballer is 0-0 in four starts but has a 1.32 ERA. Reliever Ben Stanczyk has been lights out for the Brevard pen. He is 3-1 in seven outings and boasts a 2.45 ERA with 15 K's and only three walks in 14.2 frames.

The Huntsville Stars of the Double-A Southern League are currently 12-8. Tim Dillard has been strong for the Stars on the mound. The right-hander is currently 2-1 with a 4.43 ERA and is third on the team in innings pitched. Former Pioneer League MVP Lou Palmisano is third on the team with seven RBI and has one homer this year.

The Nashville Sounds have leapt out of the gates to start the season and lead the Triple-A Pacific Coast League's American North Division with a 12-7 mark. Former Helena Brewer Vinny Rottino is third on the Sounds with 11 RBI. Lefty Dana Eveland has been magnificent for Nashville. In three starts he has an ERA of 1.06 and has surrendered only 12 hits and two walks in 17 innings while whiffing 17 and holding opponents to a .194 average.

As for the Major Leagues, Helena is represented in Milwaukee by infielders Jeff Cirillo, Bill Hall and outfielder Geoff Jenkins. The Helena Brewers family has spread throughout the majors with active players including: Gary Sheffield (Yankees), Mike Matheny (Giants) and Mark Loretta (Red Sox).

As for the future, this season's campaign opens at Kindrick Field on June 20th versus the Missoula Osprey. Season tickets are still available. Also still available for purchase are Bonus Books. These books of 10 undated tickets are perfect for the busy and/or casual fan. Tickets can be used for any home game excepting opening night and playoffs and cost only $40.00. That saves fans 20% off normal face value.

About to begin in Huntsville, my audio choice this evening.

Four games, 18 scoreless innings tossed, eight hits...could be an historic Link Report tonight.

And by "there", pogokat means in nearby (for him) Greensboro to see the Power...

UPDATE: Four games, 25 scoreless innings tossed, only eight hits -- Eveland incredible three-hitter through seven, Meyers K's the side 1-2-3 in an inning, Thurman one hit through five, Gallardo one hit through five, Lluberes six innings of three-hit ball, Inman a 1-2-3 inning of relief...

Close call to the scoreless streak in the St. Lucie 5th:

Joshua Petersen doubles (5) on a fly ball to center fielder Travis Ezi.

With Yasmil Bucce batting, wild pitch by Yovani Gallardo, Joshua Petersen to 3rd.

Yasmil Bucce grounds out, shortstop Scott McKnight to first baseman Carlos Corporan.

With Jonathan Malo batting, Joshua Petersen caught stealing home, pitcher Yovani Gallardo to catcher Nestor Corredor.

Jonathan Malo flies out to right fielder Freddy Parejo.

Huntsville currently in danger, though...

"Go big or go home," right? At least Moss got something back in the bottom half.

In the Manatees game (now in the 8th), Brevard County had loaded the bases with none out in the 5th. Then this:

Ryan Braun called out on strikes.

Brendan Katin strikes out swinging.

Steven Sollmann grounds out, first baseman Mike Carp to pitcher William Vazquez.

It's mentioned now because Ryan Braun left the game after that at-bat. Without press coverage, maybe an ejection after the strike three call? Hopefully he didn't throw his bat at the umpire http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

West Virginia Site Game Summary:

Power shutout Greensboro

Rafael Lluberes, Will Inman and Joe Thatcher combined to pitch a five-hit shutout on Saturday night at First Horizon Park in Greensboro, North Carolina as the West Virginia Power won their third game in a row, beating the Grasshoppers 2-0.

Lorenzo Cain, who was 7 for 15 in the series going into Saturday night?s action, provided the only runs of the game on a two-run blast in the top of the sixth inning. The home run was Cain?s second of the year, and his second in as many days. Cain also singled in the game to give him a South Atlantic League best 33 hits on the season. In the bottom of the ninth inning the Grasshoppers had runners on first and second base with only one out when pinch hitter Gary Roche ended the game grounding into a 4-6-3 double play.

Lluberes (2-1) pitched six scoreless innings, and earned the victory. Thatcher earned the save (3) and Ryan Tucker (0-3) took the loss. The Power are 11-11 after the victory and the Grasshoppers fell to 11-12 after the loss. The win marks the first time that the Power have been at .500 since April 13.

The Power will conclude the series with Greensboro on Sunday evening. Greensboro will start right hander Dan Barone (2-0, 1.16). West Virginia has not announced their starter yet. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM (4:00 Central).

Note: normally LHP David Welch's turn in the rotation would be up, but the doubleheader on the 27th will force the Power to go to a Johnny Wholestaff approach on Sunday, most likely. - Mass Haas

Nashville Site Game Summary:

Sounds Win Streak Hits Four With 5-0 Shutout

METAIRIE, La. ? Left-hander Dana Eveland continued his strong season with seven innings of three-hit scoreless ball to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 5-0 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Saturday evening at Zephyr Field in the third game of a four-game series.

Nashville (15-7) picked up its fourth straight victory to match the club?s longest winning streak of the year, accomplished twice previously. The Sounds recorded their eighth win in the last nine games and have won 14 of 17 contests since opening the season with a 1-4 record.

Eveland (2-0) held the Z?s to three singles and struck out seven batters in his seven innings to lower his ERA to a miniscule 0.75 through four starts in 2006. Opponents are batting just .189 (18-for-95) against him on the year and the southpaw has fanned 27 batters in 26.0 innings.

Mike Meyers and Mike Adams, who worked into and out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth, each tossed a scoreless frame behind Eveland to complete Nashville?s second shutout of the season. The trio of Sounds pitchers combined to strike out 11 batters on the evening.

Every Nashville starter recorded a hit in the contest except leadoff batter Tony Gwynn (0-for-5), led by shortstop Chris Barnwell?s 3-for-4 evening.

Barnwell broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot off New Orleans starter Anastacio Martinez. Mark Johnson, who opened the frame with a double, scored on the blast.

AUDIO: Chris Barnwell's Two-Run HR --

Outfielder Corey Hart added to the visitors? edge in the sixth, belting a one-out solo homer to left off Martinez to give the Sounds a 3-0 lead. The longball was Hart?s first of the year.

Eveland helped his own cause in the seventh, plating Barnwell with a two-out RBI single to left to increase the Nashville advantage to 4-0. The Sounds added another two-out run in the eighth on Brad Nelson?s RBI single off Zephyrs reliever Bill Bray. Jermaine Clark, who had singled, then stole his PCL-leading ninth base of the year, scored on the knock.

Martinez (0-2) took the loss after surrendering four runs on seven hits in seven innings. The right-hander struck out nine Nashville batters in the losing effort.

The Sounds look to complete a four-game sweep when the teams wrap up the series with a 2:00 PM matinee on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Dennis Sarfate (1-0, 3.86) mans the bump for Nashville to face Zephyrs right-hander Andrew Good (0-1, 4.50).

All 5 teams are playing .500 ball now. I know that hasn't happened in quite a while.

The organization is also 20 games above .500. Nice to see prospects winning games. Quite an improvement over recent years (-37, -69, -46, -54)
