Mark McCarter of the Huntsville Times:

Six players are listed on the Stars' disabled list, some of whom may remain in Arizona for extended spring training. They are pitchers Jesse Harper, John Novinsky, Manny Parra and Chris Saenz, catcher C.J. Medlin and outfielder Carlos Valderrama.

These names have been removed from the "pending" thread a few posts above.

Keep in mind you can always sort players on the Brewerfan Player Index by "injured", to see a complete list of all official DL assignments.

And the team links off the home page bring you to a complete roster list as well, including a separate breakdown of DL assignments:

Here are the names from the AAA and AA level that don't appear on a roster as of yet. Several were off-season minor league free agent acquisitions. In italics are upper-level pitchers coming off major injuries. We'll work on confirming the status of these players over the next few days.

The last thing we want to do is announce a "release" that turns out is incorrect.

The Brewerfan Player Index now reflects proper player level for AAA and AA, as much as we know.

RHP Jerome Gamble

1B Luis Lopez

RHP Josue Matos

LHP Sam Narron

OF Tatsuya Ozeki (was he ever really in camp?)

LHP Wilfredo Rodriguez

2B / OF Jason Romano

RHP Glenn Woolard

LHP Clayton Andrews

UT Corey D. Hart

OF Colin Porter

And among the missing from the A-ball level:

LHP Ryan Costello

C Chris Curry

RHP Kenny Durost

2B / OF Will Lewis

RHP Eric Thomas

RHP Robert Hinton (which must be an oversight of some sort -- he wasn't traded for Matt Yeatman or Greg Sain, was he -- someone check out Twinsfan or Padrefan.net http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ).

We may also learn about releases from the rookie level as well this week. Again, while it doesn't look good for some of these guys, we simply can't indicate they've been released until we get confirmation, which we likely will by mid-week.

Unfortunately Greg will have always have "the incident" attached to his name. For Greg to have been seriously injured during the incident and also to continue to take ALL of the negative comments associated with this is not right...He was not the only person invloved, but he has been the one player focused on.

It is also intersting that the wholet truth of the story has never been told...

Politics.

The mere fact he was out late the night before he pitched (you know, one day out of five) makes the "politics" involved incidental. It seemed apparent to me that he did not have the dedication necessary to make it to the bigs. I would have loved to be wrong, as you can always use another lefty.

Thanks, Keller!

Released catchers:

21-year old Bryan Opdyke was the Brewers' fifth round pick in 2003 out of a Tuscon high school. He never advanced beyond rookie ball -- that hurts...

The "Josh Johnson" mentioned is Kade Johnson, whose release was mentioned here previously.

22-year-old Clay Blevins (46th round, 2003) was a junior college teammate of RHP Josh Wahpepah:

www.brewerfan.net/ViewPla...ayerId=689

28-year-old Chris Curry had been signed as a minor league free agent this past offseason:

Released infielders:

30-year-old veteran minor leaguer Corey D. Hart saw time in Nashville last season:

32-year-old Luis Lopez, signed in February, wasn't able to earn a backup 1B/DH job in Nashville:

www.brewerfan.net/ViewPla...ayerId=890

24-year-old 2B/OF Will Lewis (32nd round, 2003) intrigued many of us with his versatility and some nice 2004 numbers in Beloit. It just seemed as though he was nicked up and unavailable often:

19-year-old Dominican middle infielder Osvaldo Vicioso played in rookie Arizona in 2004 and 2005:

Released outfielders:

30-year-old minor league vet Colin Porter was signed in January:

26-year-old CF/2B Jason Romano signed in late February after his release by the Reds:

Released pitchers:

25-year-old 6'9" RHP Eric Thomas (3rd round, 2002, out of South Alabama) pitched all of 65.2 innings in four years in the system, missing all of 2003 and 2004.

24-year-old RHP Kenny Durost (28th round, 2003) made 37 starts among his 70 appearances:

20-year-old Dominican product, RHP William Labasta struggled in two Arizona Rookie League seasons:

27-year-old LHP Clayton Andrews had signed a minor league deal in January:

26-year-old LHP Ryan Costello, plucked from the Blue Jays in the minor league phase of Rule 5 in December 2003, had some nice moments among his Brewer appearances:

LHP Josh Habel's release had been mentioned previously.

27-year-old LHP Wilfredo Rodriguez had signed a minor league deal in December:

Restricted list means the players haven't signed official retirment papers, yet also, for whatever reason, didn't report to camp. The organization retains their rights until the situation is resolved.

RHP Glenn Woolard and RHP Richard Breshears appear on this list for now; unable to learn about previously unknown James Kent at this time.

Most likely at extended spring training, we'll try to learn more in coming days...

Edit: Baseball America confirms that these three pitchers are on Nashville's disabled list.

An update from Brevard County seems to indicate that 1B Grant Richardson will open the season on the Manatee disabled list, while 1B Carlos de la Cruz, previously noted as on the DL, will not.

We'll be able to confirm that tonight.

Catcher C.J. Medlin has been moved from Huntsville's DL list to Brevard's.

Finally, no longer listed for Brevard (online or in press releases) is LH reliever Joe Thatcher, a sleeper pick on Toby's Power 50. We'll try to learn more there as well.

LHP Joe Thatcher (# 48, Power 50) was removed from the Brevard County roster earlier this week and transferred to the Helena roster. Apparently he is in extended spring training in Maryvale for what is termed a minor rehab. We'll likely see him in Florida before too long.

In the Off-Topic Forum, there's currently an oddball baseball injury thread:

p092.ezboard.com/fbrewers...4328.topic

This from the Terre Haute Tribune-Star about one of our favorite sleeper prospects:

Joe Thatcher, a former Indiana State left-handed relief pitcher, will soon join the Brevard County Manatees of the Class A Gulf Coast League in the Brewers? organization. Thatcher was supposed to begin the season at Brevard County, but just before departure, slipped in the shower and bruised his ribs. He has rehabbed at extended spring training in Phoenix.

Did we ever determine what became of Tatsuya Ozeki?

According to the Brewers, they did not sign the Japanese player nor was he in their minor league spring training camp.

Pretty odd how Yahoo ran the original story -- perhaps an agent supplied some false information. The original source is listed below:

"Update: Ozeki announced that he's reached terms with the Brewers on a minor league contract with a spring training NRI, JapanBall.com reports. Ozeki, who turns 30 in July, is an eight-year vet of the Japanese leagues and won rookie of the year honors there in 1998.

Recommendation: According to the report, Ozeki took part in a tryout for multiple MLB teams in Los Angeles last week and evidently impressed the Brewers with his outfield defense. Good thing, because his numbers at the plate were awful last year. Playing for Seibu, Ozeki hit just .198/.256/.296 with no homers in 47 games (86 at-bats). He has had success in Japan in the past, hitting .314 as recently as 2002, but his forte is speed, not power (80 career stolen bases in Japan against just 16 homers). He may compete for a fourth outfielder role in Milwaukee's camp, but it's hard to see Ozeki winning that job."

Darn, and I had always trusted JapanBall.com, too... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

The Brewers have signed LHP Russ Rohlicek to a minor league deal. The one-time 40-man roster Cub was released by Chicago in spring training.

The 26-year-old spent all of 2005 at AAA Iowa.

Baseball America has noted that Rohlicek is a big-bodied power lefty reliever, featuring a low-90s fastball, slider and changeup from a three-quarters delivery.

Rohlicek is on the temporary inactive list until he is ready to perform in games...should not be too long. It hasn't been announced if he'll be assigned to Nashville or Huntsville.

Rohlicek's profile and control history remind me of another current Brewer and former Cub southpaw, Andy Pratt.

Because of the recalls to Milwaukee of relievers Mike Adams and Chris Demaria (discussed on the Major League Forum in the link below -- outfielder Corey Hart and RHP Jared Fernandez to Nashville), Huntsville has also moved someone up to AAA:

p092.ezboard.com/fbrewers...1454.topic

Huntsville Press Release:

STARS MEYERS PROMOTED TO NASHVILLE

Huntsville, AL- The Milwaukee Brewers have announced that Huntsville Stars relief pitcher Mike Meyers has been promoted to Nashville, the Triple-A affiliate of the Brewers.

Meyers, a right-hander out of the pen for the Stars this season, was 1-1 with no saves and a 6.45 ERA in 6.2 innings. He was signed by the Brewers as a 6th year free agent in December of 2005 and was in his second season with the Stars after going 0-0 with a 1.71 ERA in 11 relief appearances last season.

Meyers spot on the roster will be taken by Russ Rohlicek who was signed by the Brewers on April 5th of this season. Rohlicek was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the sixth round of the 2001 draft. He was then traded from the Astros along with Mike Nannini and Travis Anderson to the Chicago Cubs for Tom Gordon in August of 2002. The 6?6? left hander spent the 2005 season with the Iowa Cubs and finished with a 3-1 record with three saves and a 4.33 ERA in 55 appearances for theTriple-A affiliate. He has also spent time in the Southern League with the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx in 2003 and 2004.
