Luis Castillo to Mets (now official)

Castillo is a bad player who is a FA at the end of the year, not sure how the Twins are getting ripped off.

No, he's not. He's not great, but he's about an average hitter for a 2nd baseman, a good defender, and he has ok speed. He's a useful player, especially when you consider that much of his OPS is concentrated in his OBP.

I guess this is an okay trade for the Mets since they didn't really give up much at first glance, but am I the only one who thinks they probably could've stuck with Ruben Gotay at 2B and not lost much? Castillo's having a pretty average year, and isn't even stealing bases like his old self...only 9 steals in 13 attempts.

 

Kind of a "blah" trade all around...seems like the Mets just got a big name to appease the NY media.

Castillo's foot problems have limited his ability to steal bases. Unfortunately, speed was really his only "tool".

Castillo is having the same season Weeks is. Castillo's WARP is 1.7 while Weeks' is 1.8. Castillo has not been the player he was in Miami due to age an injury.
