How to deal with Cubs fans?

Now that the Cubs are on the verge of taking over first place, I'm getting emails, voicemails, text messages, etc. from Cubs fans trash talking. It's hard to say much right now given the way we are playing so I need some good replies....anyone got any good Bartman pictures or anything?

punch them in the face...ok i'm kidding, kinda. I have tons of cubs fans at my work, and on my softball teams. I have to listen to their crap every time the Crew loses. I would just tell them, look whos in first, look whos in first. If we fall out of first, I'm screwed because I wouldn't know how to deal with them. maybe i'll just punch them in the face.

I'd tell them to (expletive) off, or at least explain to them that true fans aren't total jerks. True fans understand how frustrated Brewer fans are and would refrain from taunting them because they know what we're going through and would not appreciate it being rubbing their face.

I've done this before and if it's a real Cubs fan they say, "Oh, thanks. Yeah it is exciting." and if it's not, you'll get stammering, awkward silence and a "Well, the Brewers suck!"

The high road has it's perks, that is, if everything works out in your favor.

 

I went to the UW-Iowa game in Iowa City last season and the friend I was with brought along a fellow that was most obnoxious. After every Iowa score/UW turnover/UW punt he would get in my face and scream "High five!" I just sat there and did nothing. After UW clinched the game and the fellow was leaving the stadium I tapped his shoulder and pointed to the scoreboard. It was my finest hour.

Then remind them that the Cubs traded Barrett a month ago, so he doesn't count.

Talking smack among friends is over rival sports teams should be enjoyed,a great side aspect of following sports and knowing people who like your rivals.No reason for anyone to have thin skin over friendly needling.

 

As for what to say right now,not much to say.When you're team is losing,gotta suck it up and take the jabs that are coming.

 

When it comes to non-friends or family,i just ignore all of it.

I work with a pretty obnoxious Cubs fan and when I walked into work yesterday, she started and I just put my hand up and said, "The games were bad enough so anything you say can't be worse than that so don't waste your breath."

 

For the record, she pointed out to me that Theriot (pronounced There-eee-ott) has been a nice surprise this year.

 

I also work with a smart Cubs fan (yes--they do exist) and we've agreed that both teams are going to choke and the Cards are gonna win the division by 8 games--that works for us...

Lee's back gives out or Theriot's groin is torn asunder, then we will be able to meet the gaze of their goldbricking asses with sharp teeth of our own.

 

And if we don't win this year, there's no way they go deep into October, and we have our outfield, infield and starting rotation locked up for years to come, and every position promises to get better, and we have Kremblas in the wings waiting to pick up the flag if Yost fails. The Cubs have Lou Piniella in their dugout, face the likelihood of a disruptive sale and have a payroll the size of a banana republic's defense budget and are...in second place?

 

They have no soul, ultimately, and ultimately we are stronger. We have endured the frustration of losing seasons without the benefit of $100 million payrolls. We have suffered without a whiny sense of entitlement, we have taken our medicine without syrupy mythology and idiot talk of curses, we have kept the faith without the prissy and ill-informed mawkishness of George Will or the clownish alcoholism of their sewer of a stadium.

I'd rather take the high road and try to remain classy. The Cubs are a better team than the Brewers right now. Wish them luck and see where it leads them. The future is relatively bright in Milwaukee and I'm sure we'll have our day.

Most of my Cub fan interaction happens at ballgames, where I kindly and calmly ask them not to pee in the sink, even though sinks do resemble the troughs from Wrigley. If that doesn't work, and they have small children with them just lean down to their kids and explain to them that someday their fathers will love them enough to get tickets to their teams home games.

That and I find it really uplifting on the spirit to cut off as many Cubs fans on the way into and out of traffic as possible. Immature and child-like I know, but it reall feels good to let several cars full of Brewer fans in line in front of anyone with Illinois liscence plates.
