You know, I watching the game on ESPN last night, and Rick Sutcliffe is a bad color guy! Actually, if I had to choose between Rock or Rick, I'd choose Rock. I wanted to hear what the "big boys" were saying about the Brewers and they were clueless.

They just kept talking about the 8.5 game lead collapse over and over, which of course isn't even the biggest collapse in baseball this season which would belong to the Red Sox and maybe to the Mets.

Wow, really...I enjoyed hearing something different for a change.

Still in/and all, I have no idea if Sutcliffe would be annoying, were I to hear him for 150 games. I'd really like to see Bill go and maybe be replaced by Cirillo.

Doesn't Vasgersian do Padres and FOX coverage?

Won't Brian be doing...oh, maybe Astros and Fox someday? http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif

For what it's worth, Daron used to do Angels games on FOX every so often in his last couple years in Milwaukee. Good for Brian, though...it's always nice to see "our" guys getting a little more national exposure (Matty V, Sutton, BA, etc.). I think the recent run of Brewers announcers calling a few games for the Mothership says a lot about the quality of guys that the Brewers hire for their TV coverage.

I assume Bill S. has never been asked to do this, which also says something...

While I'm not a huge Schroeder fan (probably average as an analyst, at best), it's not because of that. Now that the NFL is back, many of Fox's play-by-play guys are calling those games on Sunday leaving openings for other FSN regional guys to get the September "call-up" to do games on the mothership. Meanwhile, the primary Fox baseball color analysts are still on the job.

Brian Anderson is adequate. I think he and Bill Schroeder have learned each other pretty well and will make a good team more and more. Early in the year the timing was a little off between them and Anderson seemed to lack confidence and was apprehensive while Schroeder taunted him mercilessly at every quirk and foible. As the season progressed, this subsided, particularly with the steady stream idiotic decisions from the dugout every other game that they have witnessed together which tend to take the focus off interpersonal conflict in the booth where announcers have had to collectively bite their tongues. It is like two adversaries watching a trainwreck together...such regular moments can bond anything...even opposites.

I have to say that I like the fact they call things how they see them and not as homers. I watched the Cubs game for half an inning and those guys are complete homers. Lee struck out looking and threw his bat down. The anouncers said he had a beef even after the replay showed the pitch was at the knees. They were outraged that he was called out. We know who Bill and Brian want to win, but at least they are pretty fair.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I agree on the Cub announcers...another one today was when Lee got doubled off first on a pop-up and they said it looked like he was faked out by (I think) the second baseman...instead of just saying it was bad base running. But then, they know what happened to Steve Stone.

I've grown to like BA. It is kind of funny to listen to Daron now and see how over the top he is in comparison to BA. I really enjoyed Daron when he was here, but I think BA and Bill have a better relationship and work off of each other a lot better than Daron and Bill did. I don't find myself missing Daron at all, which I guess says something in itself.

I've really grown to love the guy as an announcer. Prime example: his calls on both Fielder's HRs tonight. I no longer live "in market," so I have to catch the highlights on the Brewers' website. His pbp on those two clips gave me goosebumps - I felt like I'd been watching the game the whole way through, and the excitement was just so genuine. Considering he's been learning on the job this year, imho I see no way to give him less than an "A"

months later, anderson's use of "and" to start off a call seems to have lessened . . . which is great, because i feel it's increased an already high level of intensity.

my exposure to brian anderson has been very limited. for the most part, it's from watching highlight reels on brewers.com.

it may be because i'm only hearing portions of his calls, but he seems to consistently start relaying an exciting hitting feat with the word "and".

i realise that in the course of conversation it's appropriate, but i'd rather hear him start off his clause with a proper name (i.e. "fielder"), a verb (i.e. "driven" or "smashed"), or a noun preceded by a common article ("a moonshot!" or "the cover's torn off that one!").

watch the highlights of the past week's games. you'll find that many times, anderson starts off his call with "and".

i like to hear the emphasis of the play at hand. "and" tells us that something else is going to happen. "and" is always implied in baseball. there's always going to be an "and" at least up until the second out of the 9th inning, because we know at least one more pitch will be thrown.

starting off the call with "and" lessens the intensity of the call.

what do you think?

I havent'/hadn't noticed that, but I really think that's nitpicking. If using "and" to begin a call lessens the excitement, I haven't experienced it with BA. You're entitled to your own opinion, obviously, but I don't know what announcer could be found that doesn't have some similar pattern of speech. One thing I would not say at all about BA is that he lacks excitement - he just doesn't overdo it like some. I'll admit I've kind of grown into a bA homer, though, so take that into consideration
