Biggio's 3000

Recommended Posts

That's awesome. Always cheered for the guy. Being a "small guy" myself I always root for the smaller dudes to do well.

Glad to see someone like Biggio who I've never heard from in the offseason (which is a good thing - contracts, arrests, etc) do well.

tacky? Maybe unfortunate. Congratulations to Craig Biggio, the newest Mr. 3000!

Can't ask for any more humility & class from an athlete. And sheesh - where hasn't he been willing to play for that organization! Class act.

It wasn't tacky...it was intentional. I was watching the game on TV here in Houston and Bagwell was in the booth a few innings earlier saying that his 3000th hit was definitely going to be a double...that he was going to second no matter what. I am sure he wasn't going to second no matter what, but he had already decided that if there was any reasonable way to make his 3000th a double he was going for it. Yeah, it might have been a stupid and a little selfish (especially in a close game), but I am sure he had been thinking about it for so long that he couldn't have stopped himself if he tried.

Congrats to Craig...he has always been a class guy...and I loved how he pulled Bagwell out to help him celebrate. Bagwell has really gotten a bad rap around here and he doesn't deserve it.

There is only 9 members of the 3,000 hit club that got all the hits with one team...I know the following 4 who are the other 5?

1. Robin Yount-Brewers

2. Stan Musial-(per Robert)

3. Biggio-Astros

4. Tony Gywnn-Padres

5. Carl Yastremski-Red Soxs (per Peavy)

6. Roberto Clemente-Pirates (per Peavy)

7.George Brett-Roylas (per Peavy)

8. Cal Ripkin Jr. O's (Per bball)

9. Al Kaline (per Robert)

Edit: added names and now the list is complete thanks guys

I was watching as well and the commentators kept saying #3000 should be a double. It seems they all just figured it would be appropriate that his biggest hit was a signature double.

"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."
