Corey Hart = Eric Davis

NYChez

For the other young guys on the Brewers, it's fairly easy to find a recent player with a comparable skill set (Ryan Braun / David Wright, Prince Fielder / Ryan Howard, etc.)

For Hart, I have to go back a ways. It's rare to find a guy over 6' 3" with that combination of power, speed, and ability. The last one I can remember is Eric Davis.

That's a very interesting comp. Based on his early career years he looks like a HOFer if he doesn't have so many injury issues. Many are those some very nice OPS totals for the late 80's.

1st full season 1986 .901 SB 80

1987 .992 SB 50

1988 .852 SB 35

1989 .908 SB 21

Then after that his number get very erratic and ABs go way down

If memory serves, Davis was a high school teammate of both Daryl Strawberry and Chris Brown (of the Giants). For some reason, I think that they had to face John Elway in state tournament game.

(This could be totally garbled. There's a good book about the whole thing, but my memory fails there as well.)

When it comes to batting these two might be similar players but when it comes to the OF Eric Davis was electric. He made amazing catch after catch and his aggressive style is why his career was short, and also the hard carpet that they have in Cincy.

Eric Davis was a better base stealer and had more power than Corey Hart. Corey Hart will hit for a higher average than Davis. In the outfield, Davis was far more athletic than Hart. Let's just hope Hart avoids the colon cancer that ended Davis' career. Strawberry also had colon cancer, and, yes they were high school teammates.

Tisko you need to look at his ABs he never had 500 in any season! Those late 80's OPS total's translate to Pujols type offensive production with health he could have had a HOF resume similar to Griffey.

yeah, there is a good book about Darryl Strawberry and his high school team. It's called "The ticket out : Darryl Strawberry and the boys of Crenshaw". I highly recommend it, it's a compelling read.
