retro jerseys in playoffs?

EAsports28

I know, I know, we're not in the playoffs yet, but this is just a marketing question...if we have a Friday home game in the playoffs, would the team wear the retro jerseys?

My gut says no, they'd stick with the current logo through the playoffs, but I do feel it would be a smart marketing plan if nothing else, the logo and jerseys are popular, it'd probably help merch sales nationwide.

Any comments, thoughts, or anyone who knows for sure if there's a plan yet?

Wording carefully to not be presumptuous...

I'd be surprised if any team in the playoffs would be allowed to wear the equivalent of the Brewers' retro uniforms.

If the Brewers were in a postseason, I'd be content if they were allowed to wear the navy tops (my favorites).

---"Premature and considering what is going on this weekend...not cool... "---

That really wasn't needed at all. It was a hypothetical question, and he wasn't saying that the Brewers are in the playoffs yet. He was just wondering about would happen in that situation. And also, we lost one game so far this weekend. That's all. I'd say thats a little premature to panic.

My gut says that the retro duds are official 2007 uniforms and ought to be an option when the team wants to use them. I think wearing them for Friday home playoff games would be consistent with this year's marketing objectives and MLB rules.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Ned Yost in his catchers uniform?

Zach, zach, zach. Obviously Ned Yost swinging the bat! Preferably with a Green Monster accessory. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I doubt that SGAs would happen in the playoffs.

During the 2005 World Series, each fan attending game one got a XM Satellite radio, well actually a voucher for a free one as well as a commemorative pin.

As far as uniforms in the post season, just quickly glancing at photos from last years post season each team seems to be wearing their primary home / road uniforms.

I know baseball used to have (may still have) rules for what uniform you can wear in the All star game (remember A's players wearing different uni's in the same game?), I'd assume they have rules for the post season as well.

I would think that the Brewers would wear the Navy blue nearly every game in the playoffs, as the players and coaches have made it clear that they prefer those. Plus, at least early in the year, the club had a tremendous amount of success in them

Wow! OK, I at least feel comfortable predicting that a local (i.e. home team) SGA is unlikely in a postseason game.

I seem to recall the Cubs wearing their blue alternates in the playoffs back in 2003...so unless a new rule has been passed since then, I would think a team could wear any uniform that's an official 2007 uniform.

I don't know about the uniforms but I can pretty much guarantee that, unless there is precipitation, the dome will be open for any potential World Series games. I'm pretty sure I remember reading about that in 2001 and the Astros in 2005 also had their roof open for the WS even though they chose to close it for the playoffs.

So, dress warmly everybody if we're still playing in very late October.

I remember the Blue Jays having the Skydome roof closed during the World Series when they played. Now granted, that was a long time ago and I think they were the only retractable roof stadium at that time, so the rules may have changed since then.

I thought I heard once that a team had to decide before the postseason whether to have their roof open or closed and then stick with it for every game. So it's either open all postseason or closed all postseason. I thought I heard that back around '01 when the Diamondbacks were in the WS, but I could be wrong. Anyone know?

I'm positive that during the post season MLB - and not the home team - decides whether or not to open/close the roof. I'll look and see if I can find anything to back this up, but I am fairly certain this is true. I seem to recall this being an issue a few years ago with the Astros.

----------------------------------------------

Okay a few googles later....

Apparently the first time MLB decided that this was their call was back in 2001 when they ordered the Diamondbacks to keep the dome open at the BOB.

A few years later, in 2005, the Astros, who had a much better record with the roof closed wanted to shut the place up despite clear skies and warm weather for game three of the WS. MLB stepped in and said that there was no reason - other than the perceived home field advantage - to close the roof. The Astro's argued and said it was their roof & their call. The Commish disagreed.

"MLB controls the postseason, certainly the World Series," Selig said. The roof was open for game three and the Astros lost 7-5.

Later the Astros owner said it was a joint decision between his club and the Commissioner, but MLB maintains that they have full authority..

when the broke out the uniforms before last season, yost said that there was a possibility he would break them out for a non-sunday home game. The uniforms appear in both baseball video games. I don't think it would be a problem for them to wear them. The issue is that its another case of going back to 82. Lets try to make some memories with this club instead of breaking out memories from 25 years ago. I think its a slap in the face to this years club to do that.

I don't remember the circumstances involved with 2001, but it appeared to me that in 2005, the Astros may have been attempting to deviate from their own rules.

I don't think there'd be any issue with the Miller Park roof being closed during the World Series as long as the Brewers stick with the plan they're currently using. After all, MLB did approve it.

by the way, I will apologize now for hijacking the thread. I did not mean to do it. But I didn't feel the need to start a whole different thread when these two conversations probably could work in one thread.
