Reds Fire Narron

crewcrazy

On pace for their first 100-loss season since 1982, the Reds fired Jerry Narron today after their loss to the Cards. The Reds are 31-51, which is the worst record in Major League Baseball.

Interesting that they couldn't wait a week to do it during the All-Star Break.

Interesting that they would even bother doing it now. But I guess they needed to show the fans that they're serious about winning. Oops, that's sarcasm - not sure if that's allowed in BF.

Anyhow, just surprising they wouldn't just wait until after the season at this point.

Wow. That's a good baseball man to let go. This organization better figure out what they want to do. They fired O'Brien after a short stint and brought in Krivsky, signed some free agents made a couple of trades that did not really work out, so they fire the manager, like that's gonna help. Just keep on sucking guys. It's fine with me.

didn't Narron just sign a contract extension this winter or late last season?

EDIT: Never mind, he signed it June 28, 2006 effectively extended thru the 2008 season.

Advance scout Pete Mackanin was chosen interim manager. Mackanin, 55, managed the Reds' Triple-A team in Nashville from 1990-92. He was the Pirates' interim manager for the final 26 games of the 2005 season after Lloyd McClendon was fired.

Hmm, seems an odd choice. Do they have someone in mind for the permanent job?

It doesn't seem that odd. He was a coach in their system a decade ago and has experience in being in interim manager. My guess is that they don't have anyone planned and got this guy since there won't be a lot of pressure to keep him around full term. But for the sake of the Brewers, please do not get rid of your GM.

Its a shame the worst team in baseball right now hasn't played the brewcrew more... but I can't imagine that they'll be getting any better with a new manager half way through. what happened to the reds btw... they were very solid the last 2 years. what happened to bronson arroyo in particular? he really is having a bad year compared to last year. i have a feeling they are going to start dealing a big name or 2 before the deadline. like a griffey or dunn. either way i look forward to the brewers pounding on them a little on the second half.
