Scott Boras proposes best of 9 game World Series

I'm for best of 9. I guess it's more likely that the best team wins that way. But, that's not really the point of the World Series, it's just to decide a champion.

EDIT: I don't see the point of the neutral site, though.

The baseball purist in me is getting set to jump all over this proposal. I really do oppose the neutral sites part of this, as with the baseball season being as long as it is, and a city supporting the team over the long-haul, that it would be a tremendous disservice to take away meaningful games in October.

I heard of this a couple months ago. The part that I thought was funny was that he wants to make the 2 games at the neutral site be a "red carpet" event. He's just trying to get more exposure for his clients to put more money in his pockets.

Personally, 7 games is plenty for me.

I don't like it, if they went to 9 games and actually went to the deciding game it would make it too drawn out. It could turn into the NBA finals which seem like they start in May and end in the middle of June.

I don't mind the idea of a neutral site, but I don't like having the gala event right before the series...there is a strong likely hood that series participants will have members that are MVP, cy young and even Rookie of the Year candidates...

I don't want to see these players to have to go to an event right before the most important games of the year.

As for the neutral sites, why not have just one game at a neutral site, maybe game 5 and then you could have a 2-2-(1 neutral)-2-2 series...with no home field advantage for either team.

Seven games is plenty enough. I agree that all rounds should be best of seven. I'm tired of all the tinkering anyway. Heck, I still hate the wildcard and interleague playhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

It doesn't seem to be well thought out IMO. You need a MLB ballpark to hold the event. Other than the current 30 ML cities that have teams, are there any other cities that have a MLB stadium that could host a game (other than Montreal?). I can't think of any. It's not like football, where you can hold the SB in the Rose bowl or something like that.

As a fan I'd rather save my money for WS tickets when the brewers were in it, rather than spend premo dinero to see the Indians play the Padres at Miller Park.

When is the last time the Series was 9 games? I know the Black Sox series was a 9-gamer, but not sure when it went back to 7. I guess being on the net I could look it up, but what's the fun in that?

This just sounds like a way for baseball to make more money and then the players and eventually Boras.

Bingo. This really wouldn't benefit baseball as a sport, and I doubt it's something most fans would be really interested in. With pundits already complaining that a 7 game World Series gets low ratings, how the heck would a 9 game do?

I could maybe see expanding the division series to 7 games, but that's it. A 7 game World Series is perfect as is.

I don't see how a 9 game series benefits baseball as a sport. I really don't. We'd probably see as many 5-4 game World Series wins as we do 4-3 ones now. I really think it would make people numb to the individual games, frankly. "Oh, they're only at game 3 and the Series is tied 1-1 now. I'll bother to tune in when they get to game 7." Then FOX would complain that the ratings are even lower.

I would not be a fan of a 9 game World Series at all. Especially if MLB were to use nuetral sites for the first two games. Boras' proposal would turn the WS into a circus.

The current 7 game format is perfect. There is no reason to drag it out any longer. Many people that are turned off by baseball are turned off by the long season and enormous amount of games. They often cite that there are so many games that no particular game seems "special". I am not in this camp as I love 162 games but baseball should consider this crowd when making a decision to extend the WS by 2 games.

The article also mentioned how great it would be to open the WS in Tokyo?!? Seriously, if that happens, I will have no interest in watching the WS (Unless the Brewers are in it). Baseball is America's past time and if Bud Selig tries to make money for the MLB by playing a WS game in another country, I will be furious.

I think the new divisional layout was a great decision. Expanding the playoffs to 4 teams in each league was a great decision. Interleague play was a good decision until MLB decided to implement the "regional rivalry" concept where they get to appearantly pick and choose what the matchups will be without any consideration for consistency in schedules.

Making the WS 9 games and adding nuetral locations will be too much for me to handle.

The playoffs are way too long as it is, and that's being reflected by the fact that people could care less about the MLB playoffs at this point, despite baseball's incredible success everywhere else. A best of 9 series would be an absolute joke.

Well stated.

This is one of the dumbest things I've heard of from baseball. I guess we should consider the source though. Instead of tampering with the World Series, Boras would most help baseball by leaving it all together.

They should make it a 400 game season, where the end of each season overlaps with the beginning of the next.

7 sure seems like plenty to me. If you want to get to the point of "making sure the best team wins" I would think you'd want to play like a 30 game series. Part of the excitement of baseball is that the best team doesn't always win.

EDIT: blue for clarity.

I can't believe Scott Boras thinks he can change the World Series. YOU ARE AN AGENT.

Seven is just right for the WS. Five is too short, nine is too many.

I'm ok with the 5-7-7. 7-7-7 would be alright also.

I wish the seven games in the WS were 2-2-1-1-1 though. Not a huge fan of 2-3-2. I understand why they do the 2-3-2 but really prefer alternating the last three games.

I love the neutral site idea. It would make the World Series a destination event, a party of baseball. How fun would it be to travel to somewhere warm to party with other baseball fans, and other Brewerfan.netters! Now, its just an event for the 2 teams playing, Boras's idea makes it a Super Bowl of baseball.

I don't like making it 9 games, as it would work just fine with 7 games, the 1st 2 at a neutral site. participating teams would still get home games, and fans of the participating team would travel to see there team at nuetral site games, just as they do for the Super Bowl.
