I've just about had it

I'm going crazy seing all these double topics popping up all over the place. I can at least understand if it happens like it has with the new Ryan Anderson thread popping up in the Major League forum while we've been discussing him in another thread, or even the 2 Molitor Hall of Fame threads showing up at the same time, but all too often lately I've seen two or even three threads devoted to the exact same topic during the course of one day. It's really a lot of unneeded clutter and bandwith usage on these boards. I know the moderators have tried to lock up these extra threads as they appear, but many of them could be remedied by people paying a bit more attention to threads that are already in existence. And I really hope I'm not the only person going crazy over this.

And Massbrew, I will never again make fun of your hatred of polls.

Well, I went crazy sometime in the last '80's, so I can't count myself in. But yeah, 3 threads discussing a single signing is pretty lame to read through. If it's huge news like Molitor getting in the hall, or the Sexson trade, it's fine because people have so much to say that the threads end up taking separate directionsand can all be interesting. But there's only so much that can be said about a set up man being DFA'd, leading to redundancy.

I guess I'm curious to learn which specific threads you are talking about. The only ones that I see as repetetive are the ones talking about individual free agents signing with other teams, especially since JaNelson went through the trouble to put the offseason transaction thread together. However, I noticed you contributed to one of those threads with the Juan Gonzalez signing. I'm certainly not trying to call you out on that, since they really don't bug me that much, especially since there isn't much news these days to talk about.

I've only been back reading the boards for a week and it hasn't really been a big problem for me. I have a feeling, however, that we'll need to be more vigilant once Spring Training starts... as it would appear that the number of WHOA SOLVDD posters has increased a bit.

I feel your pain, though, Kat... I'm on another message board (non-Baseball related) that is experiencing a monumental rise in participation and its associated problems. Frustrating, to say the least.

Because of the excellent effort by the moderators on this board, duplicate threads on Brewerfan.net are a much less annoying problem than they are on almost every other message board I've ever seen.

Two of the Molitor threads popped up within a minute of each other, so no one can really be blamed. I don't see where there's much that could have been done there unless one would have been locked immediately.

The third took a completely different angle. It might have made sense to post the topic in an existing thread, but then the new idea could have sidetracked the previous discussion. Six of one, half a dozen of the other, I guess.

Is there any way that moderators can combine threads without getting participants completely lost?

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I think they are doing a good job of it. Every other message board i've seen has tons of the same issues. Honestly this is the best baseball message board that i have seen. And you are going to have some duplicates because people arent going to click on every thread just to see if it expanded into the topic they want to discuss. I say good job brewerfan!!!
