External Resource Primer

Here at brewerfan.net, we'd like to equip you with all the resources we have at our disposal so that you have good "fuel" for your postings and for general baseball knowledge. I've created this primer of valuable links that we use on a daily basis:

SCORE INFO

USAToday.com score updates:

www.usatoday.com/sports/scores.htm

As close as you'll get to real-time minor league score updates (without listening to the actual game feeds). A line score will be posted during the game, and extended box score (and occasional game recaps) will be posted after the game. These are the box scores MassBrew and company use in our link reports.

STATISTICS

Waymoresports.com player index:

tsf.waymoresports.thestar...rindex.cgi

Shows all major and minor league stats for all players that are currently in the majors (and some that aren't in the majors). This site is really an invaluable resource because it not only gives complete stat info, but detailed transaction info for each player as well.

The Baseball Cube:

www.sports-wired.com/default.asp?Dir=21

Shows career stats for most minor leaguers. This information was extremely hard to find until this site came along.

ESPN:

baseball.espn.go.com/mlb/players

A site that i'm sure is already in the arsenal of most posters here. Every stat breakdown for major leaguers that you could imagine.

CONTRACT INFO

MLB Contracts:

www.bluemanc.demon.co.uk/...tracts.htm

The best site I know of that lists contract dollars, lengths, and details for most MLB players. This site is a MUST when it comes to determining economics during trade discussions.

TRANSACTION INFO

CNNSI Transactions:

sportsillustrated.cnn.com...today.html

Straightforward and timely

ESPN Transcations:

baseball.espn.go.com/mlb/transactions

Same as above

MLB.com Brewers major league transactions:

www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/ml...j_team=mil

Pretty straightforward

MLB.com Brewers minor league transactions:

www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/ml...j_team=mil

Same as above, but with minor leaguers

Minorleaguebaseball.com transactions:

www.minorleaguebaseball.c...ctions.asp

Lists all minor league transactions across the league. The site shows yesterday's transactions (excpet for weekends, when they lag behind)

Baseballamerica.com transactions:

www.baseballamerica.com/t...trans.html

Another listing of transactions, but their timeliness is not of the essence

Rotowire.com:

www.rotowire.com/

The best fantasy site on the net. We often use rotowire.com when finding out transaction info for other teams. The site is subscription-based, but if you're a fantasy nut, it's well worth the price.

Rotoworld.com:

www.rotoworld.com/

Not as quick and reliable as rotowire.com, but a resource nonetheless.

BREWERS DISCUSSION:

Brewerfan.net Fan Forums:

forum.brewerfan.net

If this isn't obvious, check yourself into a hospital

ESPN Message Board:

boards.espn.go.com/cgi/ml...om=mlb_mil

Loose format message board... Quick pace, quick updates.

MLB.com Fan Forum:www.forums.mlb.com/ml-brewers

slow pace, not as many threads, but users here seem to have a decent community

Because I'm a nice guy http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif , and I figure we'd all like to be able to back up our agreements (or disagreements) with Toby from time to time, here's a nice resource for home/road, lefty/righty, situational and ground ball/fly ball statistics for the minor leaguers above rookie ball, provided by CNN/SI.com.

Unfortunately and unexpectedly, only home/road, and not the other two ratios, are available for the International League. Hopefully that will be corrected in 2004. But you will see all three ratios detailed for Huntsville, High Desert, and Beloit.

The first thing you'll do at this link is click on the league you want (Southern, California, Midwest, etc.) under where it says "Features". Then you'll click on the team you want. Then you'll see the options for "Lefty/Righty", "Home/Road", and "Situational". The ground ball/fly ball info is included within "Lefty/Righty".

I'm sure this will entertain some of you for hours on end during long, cold winter nights....
