Anti Milwaukee Brewers Miller Lite billboard at Wrigley

ecjimg

I can understand Miller Beer wanting to advertise at Wrigley (on a building across the street outside of right field, visible in the stadium), but why would they post a huge billboard size ad that reads " We'd rather have a Pennant Chase than a Sausage Race".

First of all, the team with the Sausage Race is in the pennant chase more than the team whos fans they are trying to reach. Second, if you want to reach the Cub Budweiser drinkers, wouldnt it make more sense to have non baseball related ads, seing as Miller Beer is already probably assosciated with Milwaukee Brewers in the minds of Cub fans? To me, it makes no sense at all.

they do that for every brewers series i believe. earlier in the year it was 'go easy on them, they brought the beer' and there was 'the real brew crew' for a series last year. i think it's pretty funny, especially considering the brewers figure to be enjoying both sausage and pennant races this year!

Miller loves to stick it to their loyal customers. I hang out with a lot of Mexicans, and most of them love Miller Lite (I don't drink beer, so I have no opinion regarding the wisdom of that). Yet, Miller Lite has come out with numerous ads over the years decrying the addition of fruit to beer, which is something of a Mexican tradition. Now they've even come out with a fruit beer.

So, to conclude, Miller obviously feels that people are too stupid to actually care about what is being said to them.

Miller has been doing this for years (at least 2). A few years ago there was a sign that said, "No sausage races and roofs here, just beer and baseball" or something like that.

I know it's the almighty dollar, but it's called MILLER park for Pete's sake, and the team is the "Brewers" to honor the MIlwaukee brewing tradition.

The only reason I ever drink MIller is out of loyalty to my hometown (and if there is nothing else decent on tap or for sale). All this does is wane my loyalty. This just makes me realize that it's not a Milwaukee brewery, but rather a multi-national concern with a brewery in Milwaukee.

Don't forget that they don't sell Miller inside the park so any chance Miller can get to steal some thunder from Bud they will do it.

Fairly certain that limes in Mexican beer is an American tradition.

But using that same logic they shouldn't be drinking the beer associated with their arch rivals, nor that of Denver's team.

There is no such thing as bad publicity

Thanks Al for pointing out my number one hated phrase. To me it is a capitafascist tripe/phrase that is spewed only by those caught with their hand in the cookie jar and try to ease their red-faceedness through hooded nihilism.

But that's just me.

Miller is run by a South African company. They have to sell beer all over, so I don't have a problem with the board.

Look, 90% of the beer produced at Milwaukee Miller is consumed in Chicago. Heck, we even make the Old Style they consume right here. How they are willing to pay 8 bucks for a glass of rat urine is beyond me.

You want to support a local Milwaukee brewer? Go buy a Sprecher or a Lakefront.

i took a picture of it, reguardless of where Miller is made, drank, or dumped, it is the name of the Brewers' home field. And to try and make jokes about one of the team's that is associated by you I think is weird, I remember last year they had "The Real Brew Crew"

I think it's funny how super sensitive people are being about this.

Also, interesting to hear that about fruit in beer, but it makes sense. I've never had fruit put in my beer in Panama, Honduras, or Mexico. Only when I drink that crappy Bud product, Corona, do I need to add fruit. A hefeweissen can have flavor brought out by orange, but Corona needs fruit to be drinkable.

So I guess it's like how Cinco De Mayo is celebrated in the US, not in Mexico.

Everybody, we are looking at this all wrong. The message is to Brewer fans. All we've had for the 10+ years have been sausage. That's the only race that the Brewers are tied to. Wouldn't we rather have a pennant race? Miller is rubbing it in to Cub fans that the Brewers are now in a pennant race. Besides, the Brewers in the pennant race is good for Miller because more people come to games at Miller Park and thus consume more Miller beer.

That's quite a sentence. Amazing that such an innocent phrase creates such passion. And I'm still trying to figure out how nihilism fits in here - seems like you may need to find some more consequential issues to be upset with. Yikes. And for anyone who needed to look it up:

ni·hil·ism /ˈnaɪəˌlɪzəm, ˈni-/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[nahy-uh-liz-uhm, nee-] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

?noun 1. total rejection of established laws and institutions.

2. anarchy, terrorism, or other revolutionary activity.

3. total and absolute destructiveness, esp. toward the world at large and including oneself: the power-mad nihilism that marked Hitler's last years.

4. Philosophy. a. an extreme form of skepticism: the denial of all real existence or the possibility of an objective basis for truth.

b. nothingness or nonexistence.

5. (sometimes initial capital letter) the principles of a Russian revolutionary group, active in the latter half of the 19th century, holding that existing social and political institutions must be destroyed in order to clear the way for a new state of society and employing extreme measures, including terrorism and assassination.

6. annihilation of the self, or the individual consciousness, esp. as an aspect of mystical experience.
