Links in the forums

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

So are links currently blue? Because if they are, I'm barely able to differentiate between blue and regular black text, and my monitor is gargantuan.

Oh, the underline, IMO, was very distracting. I actually thought there was something wrong with my computer til I checked this thread.

The annoying thing about having no indication, is that if someone doesn't use "link" and just makes a couple of the words in their the post the link, it's impossible to know unless you hover through the post and find it. So I'm very against "nothing".

So I tried casey's navy color, and now I tried his maroon color. While if I _really_ look for the links, I can see the difference in the color, but it really doesn't "pop" at all.

Hey, maybe we can make all the links neon green and blink! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Underlining was overkill, but maybe we could try bolded navy again? While yeah, it would be nice if users went out of the way to make links pop on their own, the "wikipedia-esque" method of making words in the paragraph as links is a real nice way of giving the reader the option to click on a term or phrase for more info without being obnoxious.

Are you saying the maroon doesn't stand out for you? It certainly sticks out on a Mac, where everything tends to be brighter.

By the way?thankfully, the CSS blink function only seems to work in Gecko browsers.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

This would have been a whole lot easier if it were possible to only affect links within text messages. When I first asked the question, I didn't think doing something would affect the whole forum portion of the site.

Idea: here's how links are displayed on this site's home page (hex #181E63, bold).

Maroon by itself I think I can get used to... Maroon bolded is very distracting. I still like the blue best, but given monitor differences I can understand why people wouldn't like that.

You know, actually, there is a way in most modern browsers to have multiple stylesheets that users can select between.... So perhaps i'll have the default be like this, and have a special "colorblind" stylsheet and a "larger resolution" stylesheet for this with not-so-stellar eyesight.

Everyone wins!

The alternate style sheet is the way to go. That's a nice step to make this site more accessible. It appears that the majority is benefiting from the maroon, non-bold.

My first impression this morning was "wow, that's bright", but as I looked at it more, I really liked it.

What blew me away was that Brian saw it so much differently. Given that everyone is seeing decent contrast?and I saw 'bright', I wonder if it was simply a matter of his rods and cones? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Brian, did you happen to ask anyone else within range of your monitors to look at the colors and tell you what they saw?

How about a brail version. I'm not getting any younger.
