Looking for a Director of Public Relations (hired!)

Now that Michael (madbad2000) has shifted from Director of Public Relations to Director of Minor League Operations, we're open to the possiblity of backfilling that role. We'd like to take a big step forward in getting our "message" out to the public this year, and would like to add someone in a temporary-to-"hire" role (of course, "hire" meaning becoming full fledged senior staff member with all the trimmings).

I'm looking for someone who has been around the site a while, has a very even temprement (no message board hotheads! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ), and has a fair amount of creativity. In addition to doing things that we outline for them to do, i'd like them to have the ambition to think of things on their own that would benefit the site from a PR angle.

A short list of tasks includes:

- maintaining and promoting the player/family forum.

- maximizing the audience of original Brewerfan.net content

- working with radio stations to slot segments from Brewerfan.net staff members

- working with Milwaukee media to promote Brewerfan.net

We'd like to get our name out there, as well as provide a comfortable resource for fans, players, and families of players. Let me stress, this is an "internship" role, but if things all go well, there is certainly the opportunity to be one of the core staff members of the site. It could also be an opportunity for someone who's pursuing a public relations job "in real life", to build a resume. We've had Patrick (colbyjack) go on to get a real basbeball gig with Perfect Game USA, and I think it's only a matter of time before Bill (batman) is writing professionally for someone, so the opportunity is there.

If you are interested, and have the ambition to help out the site, shoot me an email at webmaster@brewerfan.net with the subject line "Director of PR". Please include your fan forum username, why you think you'd be good for this role, and any ideas you have for the role. If possible, please also include the line of work you're in at your "day job", or if you're a college grad (though that certainly isn't a prerequisite), your major and/or minor.

Good luck!

I've gotten three responses so far, and each of them definately have their merits. One is really standing out to me right now. I'd urge anyone who's thinking about applying to do so before the weekend's out, because i'd like to make my decision quickly to get the ball rolling on this.

And for those who don't get chosen (or feel their talents could possibly lend themselves in different ways), 2005 is going to be a big year for the site, and there are going to be plenty of opportunities as we expand our operations.

I'd like to apply for the role of spell checker for the front page. I really do appreciate people who take the time to write those pieces for free, but some of them need a bit of polish. I'm not an English major, but someone with a dictionary and some time could do the job easily.

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome our new Director of Public Relations:

Shannon Lester aka ILBrewerFan

Shannon has worked as a consultant for the past five years and has some excellent ideas on how to improve the site. He played competitive baseball in college and is currently a season ticket holder. We're very excited to have him on board, and his work will continue to carry Brewerfan.net forward, continuing to make us the #1 destination for the die-hard Brewers fan, and give us more of a local and national media presence.

I'd like to mention that out of the inquiries people sent me about the position, there were two other individuals I felt could have had an impact on the site as well, and I regret the fact that I had to turn away two other excellent members of the site. It's not that those two were unqualified for the job, it's just that Shannon really blew the staff away with his application.

So now, I officially turn over the keys to PR to Shannon, and welcome him aboard!

If director of Mustache Awareness ever opens up, let me know. I decided that March is Mustache Awareness Month, as I think the 'stache is something neglected in the real world as well as cyberspace.

I also have extensive experience in bowling, beer drinking, ninjitsu, and beany baby collecting. There, keep that resume on file.
