Cost of a post/ EZ supporter

With the stickied topic on the MLB page, I thought this would be an appropriate place to ask.

1. What are the costs associated with posting?

2. Does it help Brian/Brewerfan if we are EZ supporters? In other words, does it then cost less?

3. I'm guessing the store offsets some costs, how else can we support financially?

Becoming an EZSupporter simply means any posts you make in the forum don't count against the post total used to calculate the renewal price BF pays for the forum. Whether you make 1 post or 1000 posts won't matter.

Here's the short answer (i'm going to formulate a longer Zen and the Art of Brewerfan Maintenance post later tonight):

- it's page views that count against the site cost. Of course, posts contribute to the amount of page views that occur, so they're not entirely unrelated.

- it's the prior 3 months to renewal's page views that factor into the cost

- our next renewal date is 11/23/05

- our next renewal cost is $919 for 6 months of service.

- our last renewal cost was $945 for 12 months of service (so you can see how we've grown recently).

- people who purchase the $12 ezSupporter per year membership's page views do not count against our total... so if you are here frequently, it would help Brewerfan out a tremendous deal if you decided to do so.

Can you outline the benefits that the user gets by becoming an ezSuporter? I know we can hide our online status, which doesn't matter much to me. I also know we can put HTML in our signatures; that could be cool. Does this get rid of the ads when logging in?

I think this is something I'll do no matter what, but I'm just curious about any other benefits.

Is it accurate to say, then, that it would be better for those of use who are on here a lot to pay them the $12 than to give it directly to you for the yearly/biyearly bill?

If everyone who visited the forums was a supporter, would you then have a bill of $0?

I read the other thread initiated by massbrew in the major league forum. I have to ask the stupid question. massbrew said emoticons were evil. Don asked if we could just get rid of them. the answer provided was that we can't get rid of them. I personally like the emoticons. that is why I have to ask the stupid question- why does massbrew not like them and considers them evil?

Do they cost more to incorporate into a post? does ezboard charge more to use them? Are posters just posting messages completely of emoticons? I've noticed other message boards incorporate some emoticons , but not as many as ezboard does. can somebody enlighten me as to what the real problem with emoticons is? and can you provide me a link to an example of a post that went overboard in their usage?

when talking about costs, I'm thankful this site added a spell checker. I know others who read my posts of previous years are thankful as well. thanks in advance.

Brian,

Thanks for the link. I just found it and was going to post it until you beat me to the punch. Either I'm blind or ezBoard doesn't make it obvious. I went to their site map to get it.

I see it didn't include the information about HTML in sigs; their signature page has that information.

Thanks Brian. This goes under my question the other day of how to contribute to the site best. I've done my first part. Next time the warchest is up I'll do some more. And I'll check out the store again soon. I appreciate everything you guys do.

Emotiocons can really break up a conversation from my point of view. I read the posts here to gain perspectives and information on the Brewers, not to see a dozen rolling smiley faces take up 12 lines in the middle of a post. I think that they quickly move the conversation from intelligent discussion to more frivolous posts.

On a similar note, the growth of the site is an interesting catch - 22. There are a lot more perspectives and people with different interests / experiences here. On the other, I don't have time to read everything. It used to be that once or twice a day I could make it through most of the new posts and read just about everything in there. Now there is a lot more time spent sifting through duplicate threads, long series of quick exchanges, and more people repeating things that have already been articulated. It just forces me to skim / skip a lot more, and I don't feel like I get as much solid info as I used to because of my altered viewing habits.

ja002h, that's correct. In theory if every user (and lurker) here had an ezSupporter account, the bill would be $0.

Perhaps this is already the case, but I think that would be a good thing to emphasize when it's time to refill the warchest. $12 is a pittance, and especially if some people give more than that, it'd probably be more cost effective to take $12 out of the donation and use it to become a supporter instead.

edit: I was just over on the ez supporter page, and there's a ridiculously simple solution to all of this (at least for a year or 2). They have a bunch of offers that you can do (several are free trials) to get a membership for a year. So if everyone would just go try out Netflix for 2 weeks, we have no bill for a year...

Just curious, I paid for EZsupporter and did get an acknowledgement email from EZboards. However, when I post it does not show up that I am an EZsupporter beneath my screen name. I don't care other than that I want to be sure Brewerfan is not getting charged for my use when it should not be.

Go to 'My Control Center', follow the Edit Profile link near the top, check the box to display the ezSupporter icon, then save the changes using the button at the bottom of the page.

Mine didn't take the first time. I think I somehow got logged out in the process. It worked the second time around.

I'm not sure why they call it an icon. It looks like text to me. It's no biggie, just slightly confusing.

By the way, I think it's cool to display that little tidbit beneath your username; it promotes the concept.

Done Deal Dude. I admit it- I am here quite frequently (several times a day in fact). I really didn't understand how the EZ board charges worked, so I just figured I was safe. I was probably a pretty big contributor to the page view charges, and apologize to all of BF.Net for escalating them. Now that I know the score, I have purchased a year of EZ Supporter for $12 which is about the best deal I've ever seen for anything considering how often I visit this site and how much time I spend here. If I paid 1 penny for each visit of my $12 subscription, I'd get 1,200 visits per year.

Anyhow, I guess what I'm saying is if you enjoy the site, why not for out 12 bucks and help it out?

edit:I just looked at my post total of 568. I don't post nearly as often as I look, so if I had say 5 times the views as I do posts, that would be 2,840 views charged against all of us at BF.Net by me alone. I have now reduced that number to 0.

-I used to have a neat-o signature, but it got erased.

If anybody has a little disposable income, you can purchase ezSupporter for someone else as a "gift" by clicking on their name next to a post and then the "Buy Me ezSupporter" link on their profile page. So if you want to reward someone whose posts you appreciate, that would be a cool way to support the site (and even the poor people who work here).

Well, I am in now too. I really had no idea about the costs per view...and I view a LOT! I typically don't post unless I have something semi-intelligent to say (which obviously isn't often!). AHope this helps a little.
