Jim Callis pimps Brewerfan on draft day

I flipped on 1250 AM WSSP this morning on the way to work, and I immediately heard Jim Callis talking about draft coverage. I was pretty excited, as I always listening to Callis talk about the draft... but he wasn't talking about BA's draft coverage, he was talking about BREWERFAN's draft coverage. I just about got into a car accident.

Then a lovefest ensued between Callis and Steve (Sparky) Pfeiffer about the site... It was really pretty incredible. We've been pimped by both of them before, but they were really raving about the draft coverage, the p50, and the site FAQ (Callis was using us to read up on the details of the Super-2).

Well, if either of you guys are reading, you really made my morning. And thanks specifically to Patrick for making the draft coverage the phenomenon that it is. He specifically singled out your scouting reports as being top notch.

wow, you guys are good. It's become a pet peeve. I've heard a lot of people saying "so I've got that going for me," but these 18-30 somethings don't seem to get it when I add in "which is nice". It's along the same line as my brother always throwing out there "just put it on the Underhills", and while my quote may be inaccurate, I think every male in that age range (and beyond) should recognize the reference.

A classic in college that had me laughing hard was my stats professor being asked if we could go over a certain problem, and he responded, "we could do that. We don't even need a reason for that....wait, what's that from?" I sat there for about 30 seconds, then started laughing. The guy next to me looked at me, puzzled by my laughter. I just nodded and said "Caddyshack."

And while I've hijacked this thread, might as well throw in another classic that most males will get. It's a short one. "In a row?"

For decency's sake, I won't get into the context, but it's definately from Clerks http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif .

Also of note, is that I call my dog Happy Scrappy.

I got Jim to do some more pimpage on espn http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Jeremy (Ann Arbor): Jim, would you have picked Braun over Maybin? (thanks for all the kind words about brewerfan.net!)

Jim Callis: With no other consideration, yes, I would have taken Cameron Maybin (our No. 3 overall prospect) over Ryan Braun. But if I were the Brewers, the fact that Braun has a more advanced bat, could help me at least two years sooner than Maybin and may plug one of my biggest needs (3B), Braun would make a lot of sense. No problem on brewerfan.net, which is just an unbelievable site. It's going to get better for you Brewers fans, keep the faith!

Was that on ESPN's web site, TV, or radio?

That was the Jim Callis chat yesterday (3pm) on espn.com

edit: And there were actually quite a few Brewers questions he answered in it. Check it out (if you have Insider).

it's some sort of collusion deal, I swear. In his BA chat I saw no references to the Brewers. We're mostly subscribers there. But at ESPN.com, where the free content is iffy, most of us haven't forked out the money for content we feel would likely still be substandard. So ESPN.com is obviously (said sarcastically) out to get more of us here to become insiders.

Brian, THIS IS GREAT NEWS!!!

BrewerFan deserves as many props as it can get.

You guys have done so much for me just being on line. This is my oasis to connect with other Brewer Fans and get the BEST info on the web about the Crew.

When we were in Milwaukee, I whore my BrewerFan T-Shirt to the Sunday game against the Astros. An usher asked me if I was one of the creators of the site. I told him I'm just a member. We only talked for a moment but we both agreed that BrewerFan is the BEST place to get Brewers info Anywhere!

Guys, People know the great job you all are doing!!!

Wow, this keeps getting bigger and bigger. Jim Powell, Jim Callis, even Daron Sutton......congrats!

(And for the record, I will go toe to toe on anyone here when it comes to Caddyshack lines/trivia. In fact, I think this deserves it's own thread in Off Topic)

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006
