Locking of Branyan thread is ridiculous.....

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the dialogue taking place in the Russell Branyan thread.

That is an example of a thread being locked simply because the powers that be on this board disagree with an opinion.

If you don't want to read about Branyan...then don't click on the link, but obviously a lot of people are interested in the discussion of him or the topic wouldn't keep coming up.

I understand you guys have the right to lock any thread or block any poster that you see fit, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with the direction of that thread. It was locked simply because a few people were saying they don't like him.

If Brian wants it that way, it's his website. Actually I agree 100% with him. It's not like there haven't been umpteen million threads that have debated whether Branyan is good or not. Go to the "Man we are going to have a lot of HRs next year" thread and you'll find that argument raging already this morning. Starting that thread was beating a dead horse, and as the saying goes a dead horse ain't getting any deader.

  • This should have been posted to the Issues forum, possibly even to an existing thread over there.
  • The Branyan thread was duplicative in nature. Because it was locked rather than deleted, people who posted there certainly can copy and paste their comments into one of several existing threads

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Absolutely!! I totally agree!! But at the same time, it is a fan forum and fans have differing opinions. I'm just saying that I disagreed with him locking it.

Agree. However, they continue to be some of the most posted threads because it is a topic of debate and that changes on a day to day basis. Someone might have a differing opinion of him after his 3 K performance on Tuesday than they did 2 weeks ago when they last posted about it.

The point of a message board is to post your ideas, thoughts, dislikes, etc about the team or your choice. If Brewers fans are interested in discussing Branyan's struggles or successes in a civil manner (as I believe the thread that was locked was) then they should be able to do that without the thread being locked. We can decide if we want to click on the thread and read it or browse over because in our opinion its been discussed enough.

How many more identical Russell Branyan bloodbath discussions do we need?

Aside from the thread that is currently locked on page 1. There is ZERO threads discussing Russell Branyan on the first 4 pages of the Major League Forum. If it hasn't been discussed on it's own thread in 4 pages worth of posts...I would say that it's fair game to be brought up again.

Yesterday's in-game thread touched on it a little bit, but I don't like posting on an in-game thread the day after it's over because it very rarely gets seen. If someone were to want to discuss Russell Branyan right now..where would you suggest they go to do it? What existing thread?

You might think the discussion has been discussed enough, but obviously a lot of fans don't or they wouldnt keep posting.

I have a question about how threads get moved.

Sometimes the thread still appears in its previous forum with a notation saying "moved". Other times it disappears entirely. Is that a moderator's choice or is that an ezBoard thing?

Here's one on the first page of the major league forum:

Some posters have hot-button issues that they turn into personal vendettas. One of the things we ask in our FAQ is that people not be repetitive.

It's a moderator's choice, but a bug in Brewefan causes the home page to get funky if we show the shadow in the existing forum.

OK well I dont read every single thread. I look for something in the subject that interests me and skim over the rest. I'm not interested in where the power will come from next year. That seems pretty obvious with Fielder, Weeks, Jenkins, and Lee. Also Hardy will provide some pop. I never even opened that thread. What interests me is what is going to happen at 3B next year and what is going to happen to Russell Branyan. I look for a thread with his name in the title or 3B in the title.

I understand your wanting to eliminate repetition. I also understand why you don't want things to turn into personal attacks on certain players, but I do think certain topics warrant more discussion than others.

I guess my big complaint was just that the thread that was locked wasn't a personal attack....and didn't appear to be repetitive to me because I wasn't aware that the "power for next year thread" discussed Branyan because there is 0% chance of him being back next year.

Awesome! I seriously didn't know that and I will definitely use that feature a lot in the future when looking for specific topics.

Sorry for the "bitterness" of my posts regarding this topic. I've said it before and i"ll say it again. You guys do an amazing job with this site. You are entitled to do whatever you feel is in the best interest of it. All Brewers fans are so lucky to have a site as good as this one because of the mederators doing a great job of keeping it clean, on topic, and fun.

Thanks for all your hard work!!! I will continue to follow the rules...if I ever need a reminder, please give it!!

Sorry, I guess I don't know when the proper time to "lemur" a thread was as I've only been around for about 7 months and have never lemured before. Sounds feasible enough. I'll leave the lemuring to the pros. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif

P.S. I'm not mad, just wanted to make that clear. I love the whole lemur thing, I think it's hilarious.

I don't want to cause any problems, but when I saw the Branyan thread locked, personal opinions of 3TO was the first thing I thought of as well. I know that I can't read any minds or judge anyone's motives, but I can see where this argument is coming from.

When people are spouting crap like "hopefully Branyan gets hurt in the off-season", then it's time.

And just because someone states "There is 0% chance that Russel Branyan will be back next year" doesn't make it true. The only guys that KNOW that are Doug Melvin, and Russ Branyan, and heck, they might not even know.

I find it rather insulting and derogatory when people state this kind of stuff like they * know*, and everyone else is wrong.

Heck, why don't I just start saying "There is NO chance Ohka will be with the team next year" and then bash everyone who disagrees. I might be wrong, but that doesn't stop me from bullishly slogging ahead.

I can clearly see why the thread was locked, and rightly so, IMO.
