Free agents aren't 'Trade Rumors' or 'Trade Proposals'

Recommended Posts

[ ...so why do so many people put FA discussion there? I realize this is just a pet peeve of mine, and no one else seems to care. ]

I'm considering just making it rumors/proposals, because i think "possible FA acquisition" discussion should still fall into that form. The MLB forum shouldn't be for discussing transaction hypotheticals.

I'm totally cool with all rumors, be they trades or signings, being in a single forum. Perhaps the name could be changed to Trade/Free Agent Rumors & Proposals (which is really long), but that doesn't really matter.

Under the current setup, when I see "Jenkins to the Mariners" or "Brewers to sign Lyle Mouton" in the MLB forum, I know it really happened and if it's in the rumors forum I know it's a proposal.

I must say the current set up is a little bit confusing. Not a complaint - just an observation. Putting all trade rumors and speculation in one place makes sense. However, there may be difficulty in keeping the threads in the right places. Say a team releases a player and that thread goes up in the Majors forum - and then people proceed to speculate and create rumor about that player's future in that thread. How do you deal with this?

Perhaps after the initial 'announcement' the thread gets moved over...?

This is a minor petpeeve of mine as well.

Just an obvious suggestion, but dropping the "Trade" from the forum section title seems to be the easiest way to go. Just turn it into a "Rumors and Proposals" section. That way you don't have some smart aleck saying "What about waiver acquisitions?"

I noticed at my suggestion, a rumor was moved to the trade forum last week.

We had 2 threads in the MLB forum, one titled "Nomar to the Astros" which was a rumor, and another titled "Mueller to the Dodgers" which was actually a completed deal. Just glancing at the titles, there's bound to be confusion. If people put "rumored" signings in the "rumors" forum, then there's no question as to what's what. It seems like that's the sentiment around here anyways, so an official name change of the rumors forum makes sense to me.
