Instead of locking threads, how about locking members?

I know that everyone gets emotional at times, but threads like this are totally and utterly uncalled for:

forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=11176.topic

As if the topic hasn't been totally beaten to death, it's basically a moot point, isn't it? I know it isn't my place to inbox the originator of this thread, but it probably should be someones.

It's locked. We've all gone off on a rant from time to time, no reason to shut down a member for something minor like this.

This isn't an isolated incident with this particular poster. He has made instigating posts in the past.

I'm not calling for his banishment more than just asking someone with a little clout (maybe either of your two) to let him know that type of topic isn't appriciated. It's not my place.

The locking of the thread is an indicator to the poster that the topic was not appreciated. I give my mods complete "clout".

But since we're on the topic, I have to make something clear:

3TO was an inside joke, people. sheesh

"neener-neener" and spite posts don't fly here. I would apply the same to myself if Ohka got shelled in the first half, and I was thankful I wouldn't have to see any pro-Ohka threads.

People just didn't get it. Some of us happened to like a player who hit lots of homers and also struck out a ton. It's not like we loved 3TO and Branyan just fit so he was worshipped. Rather, we thought Branyan was better-than-advertised and he happened to be the king of an obscure statistic Batman (I believe) came across within an article written by the pres of the Rob Deer fan club.

I just don't get the hatred. Seriously, this is a team that sucked, and bad, for over a decade. Accordingly, we had several players who sucked more than even the biggest K hater could say Branyan did.

Just curious what the dividing line is between "beaten like a dead horse" and "additional evidence." This is less a question about the linked thread above, so much as the current thread in the ML Forum about Branyan not making the 25-man roster in TB.

Because the first thread requested it, I kept my comments kind. As someone who believes that Branyan has been overvalued (both as a Sabermetric anomaly and as a player), his inability to make one of the worst teams in baseball over the past few seasons reinforces my views on him.

Obviously, I didn't read the posts in the thread that had been deleted....but if people can't respectfully post their negative views on a player in a thread someone else created about a transaction involving the player negatively, where can they talk about it? It hardly seems appropriate fodder for the political forum. Am I alone in thinking that the people who don't want to read the negative things about Branyan should probably just skip the thread about him being sent down by the D-Rays?

As long as the posters don't say anything that violate the decorum of the forum, or call out specific posters, I really don't see why they should be taken down. Take an inside joke too far....and you reap what you sow, IMO.

Posters were called 'delusional'. Hopefully that's a good enough reason for the post and two replies to be removed from the thread so it could continue without being locked.

Who's the next completely polarizing player going to be? The Brewers need an all-batting-average no-walk-or-K guy to complete the cycle.

I guess I just didn't see why people got so angry about Russell. Sure, I liked him, and still think he'd be an awesome platoon player for some team not blessed with a lot of 3B talent, but the whole 3TO thing was just a way of turning somewhat of an ugly stat into something fun.

Ah well... 3TO became a WOAH SOLVDD type codename for Brewerfan.net, and that's really all I envisioned for the 3TO phenomenon. It's kind of like people who love the Evil Dead trilogy. It was all about being campy.

I don't know why people get MAD when other people like a player they don't. And even then, it's entirely possible to just say, "I don't like that player, this is why, blah blah blah" without having to be a condescending jerk to those who disagree.

It's the nature of message boards that discussions can and do get heated, and I think that's all fine and well, until people start throwing out "you're all delusional" and comments of the like.

Branyan has been overvalued...as a Sabermetric anomaly...

Definitions of anomaly:

* deviation from the normal or common order or form or rule

* a person who is unusual

Highest 3TO%: (HR+BB+SO)/PA

(min. of 1,000 PA)

Some of us found that pretty unique.
