When you first start hitting the weights, your bodies response is heightened, but for someone like Mitchell say, who's actually a fairly large guy, if he put on 5 lbs of muscle there'd be 5 lb's of fat in all likelihood as well, he'd be eating a ton of calories a day for recovery (maybe 5000+) and then potentially cutting a little throughout the season. 5lbs of lean muscle is possible, and actually makes a bigger difference than you'd think appearance wise and strength wise

Depends on the program but yeah 10-15 is unlikely to be lean muscle yet it is possible depending on genetics, form, and most importantly, diet

Mitchell is a Type 1 diabetic, so I very much doubt there's any way he's taking in 5,000+ calories a day. There is no endocrinologist that would sign off on that sort of diet, as the amount of insulin he'd need to take in daily to counteract that caloric intake to keep his blood sugar manageable would be extremely unhealthy. My guess is he's hitting the weights hard, and combining it with a high-protein, low carb diet. A portion of the muscle mass you accrue going this route is going to be water weight, which will account for a visible change in physique, but not really add much else athleticism-wise. One thing he will need to account for while he bulks up is a potential decrease in flexibility and joint issues, as diabetes, even if it is well managed (as I'm sure it is with a professional athlete), can have negative effects on those body systems. He's always going to be a guy who needs recovery days, as the diabetic body simply doesn't recover from strenuous activity as quickly as a normal, healthy body. That isn't to say that he cannot be a very productive MLB player, though.

That's a good point re Diabetes, but it's still possible providing the foods are nutrient dense as well, for example avocados are a great example of high calorie, high nutrient foods. High protein is a must, obviously, but he still needs to be in a calorie surplus in order to grow, otherwise the protein gets used as a fuel source rather than for muscle building purposes. He'll need the calories somehow, though I'd suggest that while water weight can help a bit, particularly with the use of creatine, it's unlikely to be the full story, Then again, who knows, maybe he's simply wearing a tighter uniform! Where did the 0-15lbs suggestion come from?

I'm unaware of quite how much it will affect him, though he will have to be careful with hypoglycaemia etc.

you realize there is overlap between 10-15 and 7-10, right? So not mutually exclusive.

The 10 part that what you mean? That's the high end vs the low end.  10 would be a result of high genetics that adds muscle mass at a quicker rate. Seems a little bit odd for a CF and possessing speed to bulk up that quickly. Depends where he was within his body's frame.

Mitchell made the last catch in the 2nd inning and didn't come back into the field for the 3rd inning. With his injury history, hope it is just a precaution and nothing serious.

Right hamstring tightness for Mitchell. Absolutely hate seeing this with his soft tissue injury history.

Tightness and precautionary much better than a pull. Probably out for a few days or week or so at most.

Thankfully, we have Frelick ready, who’s a better bet with the bat right now.
