Jake Cousins struggled to get LHH out today.

vs RHH: 0-2 with 2 Ks

vs LHH: 3-3 with 2B, BB, 3 RBI

He gives up 3 ER and got pulled with a runner on 2nd and 2 outs. Didn't get a single LHH out.

It’s spring. Yes, he’s not great against LHH, but he’s been mighty fine overall since he was called up.

You see that, and I see a 2.70 career ERA, with solid peripherals and big K ability.  Not to mention he had a .557 OPS against LHH in 2021.

He also had elbow issues last year which dramatically altered his release point. Hard to be able to use his 2021 numbers when you factor context like that in.

Still had great peripherals even last season. I’m never going to draw conclusions from a single spring training game.

Who drew conclusions from this game? My original comment was just highlighting his struggles against LHH today.

Provided he stays healthy, I would not be surprised if Freddy Peralta figures into the Cy Young conversation this season. Reportedly, he’s been the best-looking pitcher in camp so far, with Woody saying Freddy threw the best bullpen he’s ever seen the other day. I doubt he ends up winning it, as the IP won’t be there, but I would bet on him receiving votes down the ballot.

Tyson Miller continued his good start to spring training this afternoon with 2 IP, 5 SO, 1 HBP. He's at 5 IP with 8 SO and a 0.4 WHIP this spring.

No TV today, but it looked like he added a cutter when in his previous outing that was on TV. Don't think he makes the opening day roster because he has an option, but he's great start to the spring.

The Nashville bullpen is going to be loaded with talented & intriguing arms. Miller, Casteneda, Small, Yeager, Uribe, Peguero, Cousins, Myers, Robinson and maybe even Seminaris and Middendorf at some point during the year.

I think one of Uribe, Guerra, or Cousins will be a very solid 8th inning guy or top notch 7th. I also think Matt Bush will be better (solid 8th/great 7th) especially if the staff can get him to throw the heater up in the zone more.

I cant stop thinking about a backend of Williams, Uribe, Strez and Cousins... Those arms are legit and have big K stuff.

Goes without saying that if he carries this into the regular season, you're looking at around a 4 WAR player. K rate still up there, so I think he's more like a .240-.250 hitter than a .300 hitter. Harrison Bader is a comparison that's been floated, and I can definitely see that as an outcome for Mitchell.

The last part always gets me. 10-15lbs of muscle.  Not without illegal substance did he do that. Now adding 15lbs to his bodyweight with say 7-10lbs being muscle is realistic. What are we 17weeks since season ended? He's not adding a full LB of muscle weekly.

you realize there is overlap between 10-15 and 7-10, right? So not mutually exclusive.

I didn't measure his muscle mass, but my son put on enough size his first time really lifting in a college trimester that I could imagine those numbers as being close enough.

When you first start hitting the weights, your bodies response is heightened, but for someone like Mitchell say, who's actually a fairly large guy, if he put on 5 lbs of muscle there'd be 5 lb's of fat in all likelihood as well, he'd be eating a ton of calories a day for recovery (maybe 5000+) and then potentially cutting a little throughout the season. 5lbs of lean muscle is possible, and actually makes a bigger difference than you'd think appearance wise and strength wise

Depends on the program but yeah 10-15 is unlikely to be lean muscle yet it is possible depending on genetics, form, and most importantly, diet

Has Mitchell's swing changed at all? If he is going to show this kind of in game power, he is the CF of the future no doubt.

There has been talk for a couple years of the team trying to get him to lift the ball more. I can't say I see any big differences but sometime the smallest tweaks can do it.

Not alot of video to review, but to me it looks like he's sitting down in his swing a little more and putting more weight into his back leg, which naturally increases the launch angle.
