I have a gut feeling that this will be a lost season for Ashby.  On and off the IL all season with more questions than answers.  It just feels like it will be an ongoing issue.  Best case scenario is that he overcomes it in the end, and is good to go for the 2024 season and beyond.  I don't want to talk about any worst case scenarios.  :(

I hope it's not a lost season, but it's sure not starting off well. He said it himself in the article, a labral tear sounds really bad. Hopefully the treatment works and he can come back 100% and this isn't a permanent, lingering issue.

As to how the season plays out, a lot will probably depend on other players' injuries and where he's needed. If our rotation is banged up, they'll probably stretch him out and slot him into the rotation. That may mean his start date is pushed back while he ramps up his innings limit, but when he gets back it will be as a starter. If the rotation in generally healthy, then I could see them bringing him back sooner as a multi-inning guy out of the 'pen.

I think the "play it safe" route is the way to go. Missing a little extra time now to make sure he's 100% when he comes back will help out in the long-run.

I think this will be a year where Ashby primarily works out of the bullpen. With our lack of LHP relief options other than Milner, that’s a good thing. It could also be good for his development as he can focus on one role and dominate there. Not to mention his numbers as a reliever are really nice.

Miley signing could prove to be our best acquisition this off-season. He can fill the role that Brett Anderson did in 2021, when our rotation was dominant and propelled us to 95 wins. As opposed to last year, where we were forced to rely on scrap heap options like Chi Chi and Alexander.

Eerily similar injury to Lauer back in ‘20 ST. Lauer ended up needing surgery on his “impinged” shoulder. Hopefully the injection and rehab works, but I’m not all that hopeful to be honest.

Interesting. I don't remember hearing anything about Lauer having surgery. You have a link?

No link. Going off memory, could be misremembering what happened with Lauer.

Yeah, I can't find anything saying that Lauer had surgery, only that his "impingement" turned out to be a tear to the capsule in his left shoulder. But he suffered the injury in March and was able to pitch in the summer camp and the shortened season.

Ok, thanks. Hopefully the injection and rehab does the trick, and he’s back mid-May like he hopes to be.
