Locking of Branyan Thread

Seriously, that thread did not deserve to be locked. It was a civil conversation with lots of very good points being brought up. As someone else said in that thread there aren't many interesting topics on the first page of the major league forum right now. If you don't like the topic, don't read it. Nobody said anything that violated any forum rules. I just think that the fact that every single thread regarding Russell Branyan since the day he became a Brewer has ended up locked shows just how paranoid you Branyan loyalists are. It's comical. And it has to make fans that are neutral on Branyan just laugh.

No, it was a thread that evolved into a polarized discussion with personal attacks. While that wasn't your intention in starting it, it was locked for good reason, especially considering that two other threads of the same topic were locked within the last week.

The threads don't get locked because they're about Branyan, they get locked because people fail to be civil about it. And seeing how practically every Branyan thread has gotten into a flame war and locked in the past, I really can't blame the moderators for giving the issue a very short leash.

Interesting how nobody starts threads about how Counsell, Clayton, and Sexson are doing; only Branyan.

Peavey...I respect all you guys that run this site and I really don't want to come across as someone who doesn't understand you have the right to do whatever you see fit for the forum....

But, I did not start that thread with the intent of personal attacks. And quite frankly..i just reread the whole thing and there really weren't any personal attacks??? It's the name of the player being discussed that forced the thread to be locked. Simple as that. Every time someone (not just me, but anybody) brings Russell Branyan into question as a solid player...the thread becomes locked. It's just amazing to me.

I wasn't told for 2 years by the people on this site that Counsell, Clayton, and Sexson would hit 40 HR's if they were allowed to play every day. I wasn't told that if they were given more playing time they would be all-stars. I wasn't told that they got a raw deal because Ned Yost hates them. I wasn't told that they should play despite their whopping number of strikeouts because strikeouts don't matter.

The reason Branyan is such a hot topic isn't because of his naysayers. It's because of the ridiculous expectations the people in charge of this board had for him when it was obvious to any common baseball fan that the guy can't hit for average, strikes out too much, and would never be an every day player.

I'm sorry, but that's the reason there is so much venom. And with every strikeout Branyan has and every thread the moderators lock...it just fuels that venom among the group of people who never thought he should play every day.

[ It's comical. ]

You're right, it is comical. There are basically two people on the site that want to bash each others' brains in regarding Russell Branyan.

Now, for God's sakes, let Branyan die a peaceful death in Tampa Bay. We're all in agreement that our current situation is better than our previous situation. Everything else has been bludgeoned to death a million times over. Case closed.

What were those personal attacks?

You sure put a lot of thought into that post. Keep up the contributions!

Are you 13 years old?

Well, you certainly didn't keep your mouth shut.

But people sure do jump on every chance they have to accuse me of my intentions on this matter. But I guess if you didn't really care, you just wouldn't respond.

Brewers19 has it nailed. If there's a thread that consists of posts about why the thread shouldn't be locked, justification for having said thread, insults, and an argument about said insults mixed in with a spattering of legitimate discussion about a topic that has been beaten to death, people expect that thread to not get locked?

Aren't you basically admitting you started the thread as an "I told you so" then? Believe me, we've heard it already.

Two of those attacks were against me.....and the other one was me defending myself. I am done with this topic...thank you Mike for saying everything exactly the way I want to say it.....because we both can see what is really happening with the whole Branyan topic.

That wasn't a personal attack. It was a response to BCU he said he was going to shut his mouth, and then proceeded to do the opposite.

True, but it WAS awefully snippy. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

The point is that a thread that contains the above posts without much real discussion around them probably isn't a real worthwhile thread.

Brian--I was responding to a questoin why nobody talks about Clayton, Counsell, etc. The reason why is because Branyan has been put up on a pedestal around here. It really doesn't bother me. And it wasnt my intent when I started that thread about him today to have it turn into an "I told you so" thread. It was just to point out that he has gotten off to a slow start. I honestly do not understand why it is such a taboo for someone to criticize that guy. I'm not saying I don't agree with letting him die a peaceful death in Tampa. That's fine. But I don't think posting his current stats and having a discussion about his struggles classifies as saying "I told you so."

Alright, so if i'm to accept that, will I be seeing the weekly branyan status updates from the people who "just want to point it out" like I have been seeing?

We're over Russell the Muscle now. We've moved on. There are people on this site who were upset about how much love he got, and now they're letting us know how "wrong" we were.

I don't see any Wes Helms threads.

A similar thread about the exact same thing was locked a whopping four days ago. Yes, you didn't see it. But the moderators made the mistake of not locking this one right off the bat like the other. There is nothing new here to discuss. It's the same stuff from the past year+. He's no longer a Brewer. Where are the Ron Belliard threads? He was very polarizing. Or Keith Ginter? None at all. Seriously, let it go. Both sides.

I honestly was not aware that there had even been a single thread regarding Russell since the one where he was optioned to AAA out of spring training. I never saw either of them and never knew they were locked. I actually thought everyone was kind of over that whole dispute that was so prevelant last year and didn't think it would stir up such a hot debate. I'm sorry.
