I lived with the Angels being my local team for close to a decade. It's really sad to see them in such a state and essentially wasting having two ten win players on the same roster.

Moreno is a terrible owner, I wish he would just sell the team.

I'm not sure his intention was ever to do that

He signs big names and uses them to sell shirts, bring attention and improve his investment

It's funny because although Attanasio is less wealthy, I get the feeling he's genuinely in love with owning a baseball team

I wouldn't say Moreno is a bad owner. He just has not hired the right people to run his team. Since drafting Trout in 2009, they have drafted poorly. When they did manage to hit on draft picks (Randall Grichuk, Mike Clevenger, Patrick Corbin etc.) they traded them away. 

They also signed plenty of marquee free agents, but those contracts have largely not worked out: Anthony Rendon, Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, CJ Wilson, etc.  Plus they have had to forfeit high draft picks to sign some of those free agents. 

The Angels problem has always been the wrong people in the front office, which as owner is Moreno's fault. However it is his desire to win which likely explains why they have had four GMs and five managers in the last 12 years.

Maybe he needs to hire Theo Epstein or someone of that ilk as a consultant to find him a GM to run his team competently.

Angels fans are furious about this and rightfully so. Their one hope of things improving gets stripped away because Arte wanted $3 billion for the team instead of $2.5 billion or whatever the highest offer was. He paid $183.5 million for the team. 

We know Ohtani is going to get out of there after 2023, I wonder if he'll change strategies and try to move Trout as well. This was never about anything other than maximizing his profit on the sale.

I agree with some of this but isn't Moreno a meddler (or at least was a meddler)? I thought he was behind some of the bigger signings like Rendon.

I thought spending money guaranteed a world series victory. At least that's what I read often around here.

They've spent TWO BILLION on payroll since 2010 to make the playoffs once and go 998-1006 overall.

That is some expensive mediocrity.
