Nice, congrats to Lamar making it back to affiliated ball. Assuming the Paddle Heads play in the same stadium that the old Missoula Pioneer League teams played at it is a real launching pad.

If anyone is looking for some good winter reading, The Only Rule Is It Has To Work by Ben Lindbergh and Sam Miller does a nice job of mixing analytics with the human side of Indy League ball.

Strange of the Orioles to release him in April 2022 coming off a 2021 season that seemed to put him back on track after early injuries and the Covid 2020 wipeout.

Given his age (24), do we send Lamar Sparks to AA Biloxi? Maybe one of our other MILB outfielders will be announced as the PTBNL going to the Rays (for Guerra) or the Guardians (for Owen Miller). Let’s see.

As of right now I have him penciled into the fourth outfielder spot at AAA for lack of anyone else, assuming they don’t push one of Chourio, Rodriguez, Campbell, Ward or Doston.

He had the 2nd highest OPS on his team (though the highest average). The team average OPS was .919

Those stats are nuts, even if the pitching is a lil whack

Any info on if a guy going 735 OPS in the minors at A/AA translating to a 399/461/665 Line is normal for Indy ball?

To put it in a little perspective, the Missouri Paddelehads had a 0.713 record while conceding on average 6 runs per game

I thought the deal included Cash

The Owen Miller and Javy Guerra trades are both listed as PTBNL trades on the Brewers' transaction page, unlike Bryse Wilson (cash).

Sometimes the PTBNL's are only selected during spring training, e.g.:

  • Paxton Schultz - May 2, 2021 for Derek Fisher 2.5 months earlier
  • David Fry - March 13, 2022 for JC Mejia nearly 4 months earlier

He hasn't played above A+.

Well aware. Just like Doston should have been in A ball last year. The top prospects get slotted in where they belong. Everyone else gets slotted in where there is room. Campbell might make more sense, but if they are higher on him they might want to give him some more time at AA, which is probably the level he should be at to start the season. And if they sign a veteran minor league outfielder, that changes things too. Just saying for now, that is where there is an opening organizationally in the outfield.
