Brewers acquire Bryse Wilson

The Brewers pitching lab isn't so much as improving the pitcher but adjusting the quantity of which pitches they use.  Seems typically to be working on 1 of the breaking ball pitches and throw that pitch more often signaling it as their best pitch.  The quote on Twitter mentions a splitter. I think a number of our pitchers have worked on change ups. Combine with fastball he may find a 3 pitch mix that just improves how effective he is.

Looking at his Fangraphs pitch mix, he went FB(sinker), Slider, Curveball, and Change-up.  Move to velocity on the pitches and his FB has lost 2MPH while changeup less than 1MPH.  Not surprising his changeup value was his worst valued pitch. Wilson did have his best season in GB%.

That said not all is rosy for Wilson. For his career he's not had 1 pitch value reach a 1+value. Definitely had all pitches he threw -1+ value with FB -6+ and the Changeup -7+.  Sorta a troubling sign when you think about maybe relief pitcher he'd become effective using 2 pitches and getting 3 outs.

So he's a project. Say the FB velocity improves, the changeup velocity reduces, and his new pitch is avg he turns in to a better Jason Alexander. Maybe they dump his Slider or curveball. He did toss 18Innings vs Milw giving up 8 runs on 4 different games, and his last start of 22 was an 8IP shutout.

At this moment he's probably more likely to be waived and traded than pitching Milw games.

His last game is interesting... I;d heard he was developing a splitter that actually looked like a quality pitch, and even 4 seam/split could be really effective out of the bullpen, maybe in longer stints. Has he got options?

Who would throw perfectly good spaghetti at the wall? Anyone who throws any tomato product against the wall is a psychopath!  :-)

Well anyone that throws it against the wall after adding the sauce probably is a psychopath. The rest of us just do it to test if the noodles are done boiling before the sauce.  ?

Does not. There are reasons to be dfa/waived. Not having options being a big one.

They aren't dumping Payamps or Peguero.

Time will tell, Payamps is already what you would call a journeyman and Peguero has fewer than 9k per 9ip in the minor leagues, which not always but typically does not bode well for future major league success (Williams 9.6, Cousins 10.8, Ashby 11.0, Strzelecki 11.9, as examples of where current Brewers were.)

Peguero's stuff (but not his command) is impressive. And I believe the Brewers will save face by not cutting bait so soon on one of the guys they acquired in trade, for appearance's sake at least.

The K’s haven’t been there in the big leagues yet for Peguero, but he has struck out 10+ each in each of his post-pandemic minor league seasons, and he is one of the few guys in the mix for the final spots who has options.

Pretty much every non-elite reliever is a journeyman. It's the nature of the gig.

Payamps is one of only 94 relievers to have thrown at least 100 IP over the last two seasons, so he has been getting more consistent work than most of his fellow journeymen anyway.

His ERA- of 79 is well above average, but his peripherals suggest regression is incoming with a 102  FIP- and 107 xFIP- over the same stretch.

Interestingly, those splits aren't too far off from Gregory Soto (82 ERA- | 95 FIP- | 108 xFIP-) over the last two years, who the Phillies traded three players for vs Payamps being more or less a throw-in.

Obviously Soto throws harder and is a "proven closer" so he'll always be more coveted than a guy like Payamps who gets to his run prevention via control and soft contact, but I never would have guessed their splits were so close given their difference in reputation and acquisition cost.
