brewcrewkid14,

I checked the source code of this page. It appears that the text of the box score you used wasn't lined up properly. (Actually it wasn't lined up at all.)

When you're using the code function (or the HTML 'pre' tag), if the text isn't lined up properly, simply insert spaces until everything looks right.

If your original text is really a mess, it's probably easier to do this work in a word processor or text editor using a monospace font (like Monaco). That way each character (or space) will be the same width; things will be really easy to line up.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

well when i try it there is like a HUGE space between the words...
The huge space your eye perceives between the words is normal. You're not doing anything wrong. It's the consequence of of your browser displaying the text in a monospaced font. It simply doesn't stand out so much in the box scores.

Look at something created on a typewriter. You'll see the same effect.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

There is a big space between this line and the next line....

It appears that you've simply hit the enter (or return) key two too many times. You can see that this looks fine:

There is a big space between this line and the next line....

See

What you likely did was this:

There is a big space between this line and the next line....

RETURN

RETURN

See

Unlike writing regular text in a post, when you use the 'code' function, every space and return means something.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

What browser are you using?
I don't think the browser makes a whole lot of difference. When the code function is used, ezBoard turns it into pretty standard HTML. I looked at this page in 3 different browsers (Firefox, Safari, IE-Mac) and there was no real difference.

If 'coded' text looks obnoxious to an individual user, s/he can try changing the browser settings to a different monospaced font.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Just not working for me. While I'm apparently not using a mono-space font, it still looks decent before I post it (just SLIGHTLY off). After I post it it looks aweful though. Your guys nice formatted posts all line up perfect, however. teh idea, however is, if I went in word and it was perfectly lined up, I should be able to just copy and paste that?

Can you copy over any html code? Like tables?

Is there an ezboard default typeface that is monospaced? ARGGGGGGGGHHHH!

Setting your word processor or text editor to display a monospaced font won't make a difference when the browser displays the end result. It just helps you maintain sanity when you try to line things up.

Setting the word processor to show 'invisible' characters is helpful, too. Tabs vs. spaces can make a difference.

I've never tried posting a table to this forum.

This would be the thread to try it out! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Reviving an old thread, because I just spent an hour trying to edit my post that won't line up correctly.

Moderator Chris told me to use spaces, but they already are spaces. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I wasn't sure what you were doing wrong so I just tried lining up the data myself and it worked. All I did was copy and paste the data into Notepad, and spaced it out correctly and then wrapped it in code tags. I'm not sure why it didn't work for you.

mls:

In your first post, the columns were separated by tabs. I know this because when I looked at the orginal post, a single delete removed what appeared in the post to be a number of spaces. This is something that happens a lot when you try to copy and paste the data from a website, especially if it was presented in a table.

Here's an example of Carlos Lee's stats taken from his ESPN.com player profile without any modification:

As you can see, the columns still aren't lined up correctly. That's because rather than using spaces being between each column, there is a tab.

How can you tell if the document uses tabs or spaces? I paste what I want to post into Notepad first. When I delete the space between columns, if it only takes a single keystroke, I know I am dealing with columns separated by tabs. If that's the case, I need to delete the tabs and replace them with spaces.

Below is the same data. I pasted it into notepad (which uses Lucida Console as the default font, though any monospace font works) and removed all of the tabs and replaced them with an appropriate number of spaces. Once everything looked OK, I copied from notepad and pasted into this message, between the CODE tags.

 SPLIT G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB BA OBP SLG Season 34 127 27 37 5 0 15 28 2 .291 .389 .685 Career 1076 4073 645 1158 238 10 199 694 79 .284 .339 .494 Last 7 6 25 6 9 3 0 4 7 1 .360 .385 .960 Projected 162 605 129 176 24 0 71 133 10 .291 .389 .685

Its a lot easier to do than describe. It took me longer to describe all the steps than to actually do the work.

Hopefully that helps. If not, let me know and I can e-mail you the text document with the before and after text in it.

Chris

Ok I finally figured it out now. I was doing it with the HTML button on, and I should have been doing it with the ezCodes button on instead.

Sorry to make this into much more of a big deal than it needed to be, and thanks for everyone's help.
