Barring an injury, this pushes back the likelihood of Turang breaking camp with the major league club.

Why does this push back Turang? He's ticketed for the Jace Peterson role this year. He shouldn't have been counted on for anything more.

Great move!  Huge on the field to keep him and/or huge trade chip for 8 million!  He'd definitely have gotten more on the open market.  Win/win no matter what happens

Which is kinda sad. He already spent an entire year in AAA and put up respectable numbers. Maybe he’ll be a utility guy next year.

I was on the fence about this one. On one hand I'm not sure we could get that production for that price anywhere else. On the other we do have a pretty good option in the minors for a fraction of the cost but more risk. If his defense returns to normal this is not a bad thing.

Does make me wonder what their plans are for Turang though.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

this may be an indication that ownership is going to go all in for 2023 before the window is completely shut with this group.

?

My guess is that Wong's option was picked up to keep from paying the $2 million buyout and Wong will be traded before the end of ST.

I don't believe this team will ever be "all in."

The first major hint at the direction this team is going in this offseason. This is not the type move you make if you're tearing down to cut costs. It definitely surprises me as it seemed like they were ready to give the 2B job to Turang. Turang will probably assume Jace Peterson's role, with Peterson's days as a Brewer being all but numbered.

I would imagine their plans are for him to assume Jace Peterson's spot on the roster. It allows them to ease him into the majors without giving him an everyday spot. He'll still get close to everyday at-bats.

I think it means Wong will be DH a fair bit of the time. Our McCutchen replacement was already on the team.

I think that depends on what they think of Urias as the everyday 3rd baseman. If they want Urias as the super sub and have Brosseau for pinch hitting and occasional starts against lefties is there going to be enough playing time for Turang? I don't think it helps anyone to have him getting a handful of PA's a week. I'd rather see him play every day in AAA and only come up when he forces it by his play or injury than sit on the bench.

I don't know how you can conclude that Wong will be DHing any significant part of the time for the Brewers. There's just no evidence for that.

Not that there was much doubt, but I think this is more of an indication they aren’t going to a full rebuild or even a retooling yet. Not sure it means they’re going “all in” this year. I’ll believe they’re going all in when they make a major trade for a veteran or sign a big time free agent.

We'll see if they tender Brosseau a contract. I could see a scenario in which they decide to non-tender him. But I just look at the playing time that Jace Peterson received this past year and think that Turang is likely to fill that void. Turang has nothing left to prove in AAA.

The evidence is that he has gotten progressively worse at fielding and that Turang is better at fielding. Not saying he'll DH 82 games, like McCutchen did, but I suspect he'll DH more than half that, unless Turang doesn't perform (or they make other trades/acquisitions among INF). As much as we'd like it, Yelich isn't going to be DHing all the time.

He hit fine in the second half. He was a horror in the field in the first half.
