David Bell thread

Why did that thread get locked? I wasn't venting or anything...I really think he will be the key factor to us making a playoff run and I think that in itself deserves it's own thread. I wasn't discussing the trade or anything like that...it was a new topic...David Bell helping us make the postseason. Can you please unlock it? I didn't know that we could only have one thread per player.

The thread is discussing the merits of trading for David Bell. That can clearly be discussed in the David Bell transactions thread. Discussing predictions for his performance this evening can be done in the in-game thread.

Duplicate or redundant threads will always be locked.

Obviously, we all believe you, and don't think your thread was an attempt to do anything but proclaim your praise for the acquisition of David Bell. You've never shown anything before that would have us brand you as being disingenous, and we thank you for your straightforwardness and patronage.

I don't understand this comment. I love the David Bell acquisition. I thought it would be fun to have an official David Bell/Wildcard thread....I don't see the problem in that at all. We are 2-0 since we acquired him and I am excited. Although the news didn't make a big splash with the national coverage...I think it was huge.

I'm not sure if Brian was being sarcastic or not. But I thought that the unwritten law was to use a blue font if being sarcastic. Brian didn't use blue so I'm guessing he was serious?

I think you guess wrong.

As for the actual thread, there's no real reason you can't say "I think this is a huge acquistition and will catapult us into the postseason" in the transaction thread.

[ Brian's sarcastic response was uncalled for in my opinion. What did I do wrong in this thread. Why can't I think the Bell acquistion is pivotal for this team's success. What is the big deal? ]

You didn't do anything wrong. I thought the thread was fabulous. It would be completely unlike you to be disingenous and start a thread to bait people.

As already discussed, the thread you started was a duplicate, and should have been posted in the Bell thread that already exists, and the predictions for his performance that evening belonged elsewhere aswell.

Afterall, I completely agree that acquiring Bell will lead us to the playoffs, but instead of the wildcard, he'll help us overtake the Cardinals to win the Central, and then eventually beat the Mets 4-0 in the NLCS, and go on to win the World Series over the heavily favored Tigers, who will likely forfeit the Championship rather than to have to face the intimidating force that is David Bell.

BTW, I also think your thread was outstanding, and couldn't have been better written or more well articulated if it had been posted by the likes of Jupiter or Zeus themselves.

I, for one, hate duplicate threads. Of course, many threads are borderline. I'm happy to let the moderators make the determination, at least as long as they provide the link to the thread where they'd like us to talk.

I think the 'blue' thing works to a degree. But because not every end user is going to see 'blue', I'm not a huge fan of using color to convey meaning. I'll acknowledge that 'blue' will probably work 90% of the time, though.

I have to say that I'm the owner of a pretty good sarcasm meter, so I generally don't have a lot of trouble spotting sarcastic posts and acting accordingly (leaving the sarcasm alone or adding more) http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif.

In my own posts, I tend to use the smile or wink emoticon. Of course, there's a flaw with that, too, as not everyone is going to load those images. [brian, on your new 'dream' message board, you should be adding alt attributes to your emoticons; if people can't see the wink image, alt=";-)" will still allow readers to see ;-) in text.]

BCU, except for occasional rants (Russ Branyan would be an example), I respect and enjoy your posts. I think you're a hair too sensitive about your threads being locked, though. Many Brewerfan.net posters go out of their way to say something like, "Mod, if this fits in better elsewhere, please feel free to lock." If you're locked, you can copy and paste the same thing to that other thread.

Another suggestion I have for you is to use links more often. [if you don't understand the link function, it seems that moderators are glad to make a 'repair'. Just post the long link and request that someone fix it for you.]

Anyway, you frequently post new threads with news, and I trust your information because you always turn out to be right http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. But someone else will end up looking up the link, just to be sure. (As I said, I don't bother to do that because I trust you.)

In the case of this discussion, a link to whatever was locked would have been convenient for us to fairly judge what happened and offer suggestions for you and the moderators in the future.
