Looks like Hader mistake did him in... Oh well, he was gonna leave us anyway.

Hopefully Arnold is more aggressive.

Hardly. The industry knows what a brilliant baseball ops leader Stearns is, even if some fans don’t

That settles that and as expected, despite some doubts and against some posters wishes, Matt Arnold will take over. Stearns won't be in charge during a lame duck year..

I don't see this as a bad thing whatsoever. My impression has always been that Arnold was Stearns' right hand man and exactly as involved with the success of the team as Stearns, Stearns just had final say so. Arnold will likely have slight differences but should be a solid executive.

I very much doubt that. If MA were firing Stearns he'd be gone instead of remaining as an advisor.

Stearns had 1 year left on his contract, my guess is Mark A reached out to begin extension talks and Stearns told him he'd rather be back in New York where he is from.

As for impact on thr Brewers I doubt this changes much, Arnold came over with Stearns from the beginning so I'm sure their philosophy is very similar. Arnold did originally come from Tampa who almost never keeps their big name players and has constant roster turnover so it will be a little interesting to see if Arnold is more aggressive at willing to sell players like Burnes, Woodruff, Adames, etc.

Seems like this is step one in Stearns heading to the Mets from what I’ve been seeing. Good for him that he gets his dream job. Hopefully Arnold can keep the ship steady!

I'm not convinced he's 100% going to the Mets, it's certainly a possibility. He will be a free agent after this season and would potentially have some nice options depending on situations around the league.

Or maybe it is the Mets and this advisory role is the first step to a trade.

Everything is questionable.

There is no way to know if it’s a step up, down or sideways until transactions happen and games are played.

Industry execs know the value of these guys, clear reason why Stearns has been coveted and no whisper of anything regarding Arnold.

Just my speculation, but I imagine MA wanted Stearns to commit to a contract extension, and Stearns likely said no with the intent of wanting to eventually move on.

It’s to lessen his role so that the POBO role with the Mets is an advancement and he cannot be denied. He gone.

The Brewers literally blocked Arnold from interviewing for the Mets GM job one year ago to the day. Arnold also interviewed for the Angels GM job in 2000. So this is literally flat out incorrect.

But not because he was coveted for the POBO job. GM sure, he just got promoted to POBO in a year in which the team underperformed and failed miserably at the trade deadline. I don’t see how he comes so highly regarded. All comes down to Mark in the end, needs to spend

Sure that's possible, seems like long meandering way to let a guy out of his contract though. Perhaps it's all to massage PR for the common fan.

Oh well, can’t say I really liked his last two years here and certainly wasn’t looking forward to what he was going to do with our roster in the next two years. Glad a guy that doesn’t actually want to be here is soon to be gone. Too bad it didn’t happen last year, in my opinion.

When I saw the headline I assumed it was so he could get to the Mets.  I still think that's the case.  I think he's highly respected despite the Hader trade.  I do think he did an unreal job on a small market team and he will be missed.  The only thing we can hope its that Arnold learned a ton from him and will now take the franchise to the next level.  Be his own person but with some great knowledge from Stearns.
