So Leonhard would get a mulligan because of the talent gap but Chryst would be on the hot seat despite it? Doubt it very much. Either it’s a pass for everybody or everyone takes the blame.

I can see your viewpoint for that post but I wasn't suggesting a mulligan.

Paul C has responsibility over all parts of the team.  I don't think either of us is suggesting Jim L has any control over play calling or the offense.

Accuracy can be fixed with proper coaching.  The poor and dumb throws is something that can be coached also.  It is just never going to happen at Wisconsin.

Wisconsin’s staff won a lot of games by coaching mediocre QBs into guys who can win games for them despite their flaws. Mertz shows no signs of being talented enough to even do that at this point.

LOL Ohio State up 28-7 goes for it on 4th and 1 at about the same field position.  Yes PC is getting out coached once again.

Not sure what it is going to take for some to finally see that PC is a bad head coach.  This is the second game this season where he is being out coached.

Oh trust me, I agree. Wisconsin has a lot to blame why Mertz has been as bad as he is. They certainly do nothing to help him.

I can’t imagine how long it will be before another high end QB recruit thinks about going to Wisconsin.

None of those players in the past were inaccurate like Mertz.  They just didn’t have the arm strength.  Accuracy wasn’t their problem it was always them not being able to throw it down the field deep.  Mertz can but he is horribly inaccurate with his throws.

If Mertz we’re to go to Oklahoma or Alabama he would put up big numbers.  It is the coaching at Wisconsin that is failing along with Mertz.  Both can be true at the same time.

How quickly we forget the Alex Hornibrook Experience….

Hornibrook’s problem was always deep down field.  He had to loft the ball in order to get it down the field.  This allowed defenses to play up and take away the short passes because they knew they had time to get back on deep throws because it took forever for the ball to get downfield.

Disagree. Hornibrook lacked arm strength and was inconsistent with accuracy in the short game. But, the staff managed him and the game well and they won a bunch of games with him at QB. Mertz just isn’t very good.

Come on. Badgers were on their own 44. OSU was on the opponent 36. That's 20 yards difference.

The 2-4-5 defense does not work against OSU.  OSU has dominated the LOS on offense as they have every year for the past five years.  In the first half the OSU RBs had 100 yards before contact.  Way too many times the OSU OL got into the 2nd level because there were only 2 DT on the field.  Yes, OSU is running 3 WRs on the field, but you have to adjust and go with a 3-3-5 especially when you have ILBs that are as inexperienced as what UW has; ideally a 4-2 but UW doesn't have the DEs to run an effective 4-2,

What the hell is going on with Vujnovic?
