Brewerfan.net's Wikipedia page

Recommended Posts

Perhaps it would be a good idea to work on a Brewefan wiki article within a thread here on Brewerfan before you try to put it back on Wikipedia. If it is more fleshed out before it's put on Wikipedia, it may be more likely to stick around.

Links to and from other Wikipedia entries would be helpful, too.

Yeah, Toby, that might be the way to go if Wikipedia is that heavily into deletage.

It shouldn't have been an issue, though. Adam provided a perfect framework for someone else to go in and add details. His outline was excellent, the information was accurate, and he followed the inverted pyramid perfectly. It could have easily sat there 'as is' indefinitely.

(Adam, tell your English teacher I said this! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I think BF.net's draft coverage needs to be expanded. As far as I can tell Patrick Ebert (colbyjack) provides some of the best and most in depth FREE draft previews on the web. Many fans from other teams come to BF.net exclusively for the draft coverage.

Link: Brewerfan.net page at Wikipedia

I think this one stands a chance of surviving at Wikipedia as Adam didn't mention it being immediately marked for deletion like last time.

Just in case, here's a copy of his work. Of course, any editing anyone volunteers to do should be done at the first link above on Wikipedia's site.

I have a Baseball Prospectus web subscription. If I can dig up a mention over there, would that help?

I'm completely unfamiliar with Wikipedia, but I did manage to do the edit to include the BP and BA references to go along with the one for ESPN.

I suppose I should make another copy of the page. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I didn't find anything in a search of the Baseball Prospectus site, but that doesn't necessarily mean references aren't there.

I do see one problem with both Baseball Prospectus and Baseball America. Much of their content is subscriber-only. With rotten luck, that's where Brewerfan references would end up being.

Hooray for me! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif

I figured I can best contribute by adding and tweaking all the format and layout features, but I guess I can help with content too if you really need me to.

By the way, is there any way that we can get a nice image of the logo to throw up there?

I liked the outline on Adam's defunct version better than this one. I wish I could remember what he did. (I bet Adam would have replicated it had he remembered it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif)

I think it'd be cool to try to arrange the items to somehow mirror how Brewerfan.net itself is arranged. And maybe instead of the bolded stuff that's there now, it seems appropriate to me to go to either lists or h3s under the h2s.

Pardon me, by the way, if I get to HTMLish. That's much more familiar to me than the way Wikipedia presents things. I do see they offer a cheatsheet, though.

Baseball Prospectus 2005 should be cited in the references on this page, but I haven't figured out how to do the code to include it. I'm betting brewers19 would know that.

Wikipedia recommends the Harvard referencing format. However, it tells contributers to attempt to defer to whatever format might already be in use on a particular page. Since there's no book currently listed, that wouldn't be much of an issue.

Here's what Harvard referencing produces for Baseball Prospectus 2005.

Baseball Prospectus Team of Experts. (2005-02-22). Baseball Prospectus 2005: Statistics, Analysis, and Insight for the Information Age, New York: Workman Publishing Company. ISBN 0761135782
The ISBN number should be linked to something; I'm hoping Wikipedia does that automatically. If it doesn't, plain text ought to be OK until someone figures out what to do.

By the way, I do have an HTML copy of the page as it stood this morning. I just haven't uploaded it anywhere. It'd be better to copy the text in Wikipedia's format, but it looks if it's scattered about a bit. If I can make sure I'm getting everything, I'll back it up that way. Of course, anyone else should feel free to do that if they wish. My feelings won't be hurt. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

By the way, based in his forum signature, it looks like valpocrewsader made the initial ESPN contribution. I stuck in the month and day, and brewers19 stuck in the reference and YouTube clip.

I think this is great, a wikipedia entry for BF.net is probably long overdue. Btw, does anyone know the name of that ESPN News anchor? I'd like to see that sentence changed to, "...was referenced on an ESPN News broadcast by anchor [dude's name]."

Also, you think the History section should contain mention of the site being brewerfan.com in the beginning? Seems like a relevant fact. Even if it's as simple as, "...founded brewerfan.net (originally brewerfan.com) in May 2001...".

bf.com sounds fine to me.

If you have the ESPN dude's name, by all means, add it. The clip isn't convenient for me to look at because I have dial-up.

I checked with Adam, and he agreed with me that moving this thread to the Issues forum wouldn't be a bad idea. It'll be easier to find for those who want to discuss the progress of the Wikipedia page down the road.

By the way, thanks, Adam, for adding Baseball Prospectus 2005 to the references. I hope that and the video posted by brewers19 help with the 'notability' issue.
