Apologies to Brent Suter

Here's a guy I thought was done based on his repertoire and truly awful numbers to start the year, but lo and behold very quietly Suter has rounded into form and been doing a very good job for Milwaukee out of the pen. Since June 1st:

31.2 IP, 21H, 8bb, 4 HR, 27K, 10 er.

That comes out to a WHIP of 0.92, an  ERA of 2.84, 1.1 HR/9 and a 3.3:1 strike out to walk ratio.

Sorry for doubting you Suter, keep up the good work!

Suter booster since 2015, with the Top 25 ballots to prove it.

He has value due to the versatility. An occasional late-inning appearance, mop-up, middle innings, or in an emergency he can start & actually give you 3-4 innings. Plus he's left-handed. I didn't think he'd get dropped this season (Counsell just loves him) & figured he wasn't as bad as his numbers earlier this year, but never thought he'd rebound to put up the stats Jopal shared.

Props to the guy.

Props to the guy.

He hasn't pitched over 3 innings since 2020.

Because he does things so differently from most relievers, I think there is a tendency to be waiting for the league to figure him out, and any slump sparks fear it finally happened. I know I tend to fall into this category. He has been good enough long enough, though, to earn a bit more of a benefit of the doubt.
