September 1 Call-up Predictions

Nice to have some power on the bench from the right side, so I go with Weimer who can also give some speed and late inning defense replacement. But do they waste an option year on him? I then would go with Perdomo.  I’d love to see Feliciano with him heating up, but not sure if they would give him much catching responsibilities.  Brosseau will get called up, but maybe better to give him 3 days in Nashville. In the mean time Ruiz can be on the bench and get familiarized with the team for those 3-4 days, and not use up his rookie eligibility for next year.

For clarity sake, The only way an option year will be "wasted" on a guy like Weimer or Mitchell is if they send them back down (i.e. "option" them) in the middle of September.  If a player is simultaneously added to the 40-man roster and the active roster he has yet to be optioned so an option year is not used.  Thus, if Mitchell stays on the big league club through the end of the year then he will still have 3 option years left at the beginning of next year.  Ruiz, on the other hand, has used 1 option year this year.

With only two spots and Brosseau back any day.  It has to be him and a reliver such as Cousins.  Maybe someone else gets a few days until Brosseau is back but in general it'll be those two for Sept, barring injuries.

Really, a R/L combo of Bros/Jace is a fairly solid 3B.   Move Urias to the utility and PR type role being discussed above since he's been so poor this year and lately.  And I'm sure he'll play vs most lefties.

It can't be Brosseau, they must recall a position player today and he isn't eligible.

I wonder who gets sent out when Brosseau gets back? I hope they just cut McCutchen.

Is the 28 man a mandatory number? Under the old rules, a team could bring up from 0-15 players. Do teams have to bring two players up now, or could they have a 26, 27 or 28 man roster?

It's a mandatory number

They can still send guys down/call guys up, so some bottom of the roster shuffling is still possible.
