September 1 Call-up Predictions

There’s only room for two more to be added on September 1 now but who are we thinking? I think Ruiz is a lock but who else? Turang? Frelick? I guess there’s two questions- who do you want to see vs. who you think they’ll actually bring up. I do think we’ll see one of the Nashville outfielders replace Davis at some point so could potentially be three players from Nashville that ends up in Milwaukee.

September 1st

Jace Peterson---> Pablo Reyes

Trevor Rosenthal* ----> Jason Alexander

Frelick to MLB

Cousins to MLB

* I don't know how it works with Rosenthal, in order to be post season eligible must he be activated on the major league roster? If so, they most assuredly will activate him to get post season eligibility, then if he's not healthy, place him on the DL and recall a different pitcher.

I would bet on one hitter (Frelick) and then shuffling their roster with the other spot as well as Alexander's roster spot to get their preferred pitchers:  Ashby, Gott, Rosenthal, Cousins to the major league roster as they become healthy.

One will be a pitcher, whoever seems to be throwing well enough to warrant it. Cousins could be a good bet. Maybe Gott is ready by then. Perdomo has been throwing. Haven't heard anything about Gustave recently. Even with an extra pitcher the shuttle will probably continue. Would hope to see Frelick then if not before, but you have Brosseau coming back at some point too.

You could make an argument for Davis staying due to his abilities as a runner & defender too. There's just so many ways they could go. MLB IMO never should've cut back to 28 in September. 30 or 31 would be better. I used to enjoy seeing deserving minor leaguers get promoted, even if they mostly sit. Now it's just an exercise to add a 9th or 10th man to your bullpen or add someone from the IL w/o having to make a corresponding move.

Playoff eligibility is based on when the player is added to the 40-man and they have to be added by August 31st at 11:59 PM ET.

Rosenthal is already on the 40-man.

Now that Mitchell is here and Brosseau can't be called up on the 1st I do wonder what position player will be recalled. Reyes isn't done with his 10 days so maybe Ruiz for at least a couple of days until Brosseau is ready.

Will still go with Gott if he is ready but Cousins otherwise. Wouldn't mind both.

At this point, I’d guess either Turang or Ruiz for the position player. Not sure if there’d be enough playing time for either one of these guys to warrant a call up but we’ll see.

Ruiz is already on the 40-man roster, so I'm betting its him.

Unlikely on Turang as he is not on the 40-man roster.  Ruiz is more likely to be added to the roster but I think the Brewers just call up a bunch of relievers instead as that is what the Brewers need right now.  This would put the Brewers at the maximum of 14 pitchers.

So I believe two of Cousins, Perdomo, Topa, Kelley or Small will be brought back up.  Once Gott is healthy he will replace one of those players on the list.

Pretty much agree on this.  I don't think the Brewers will bring up any more rookies to try to find at bats for while they are chasing a playoff spot.  Maybe if Mitchell struggles we could see him go down and another outfielder like Frelick up.

Cousins has been pitching pretty well lately, I would guess he gets one spot

My bold OMG prediction- the newly acquired Gasser, nasty stuff

Brewers already at 13 pitchers so need at least 1 position player. Ruiz isn't playing so likely him.

It looks like Brosseau's planning on being back on Friday, so he'll probably be the "call-up" for position players. Add another healthy reliever and we're at 28.

Frelick was given a night off last week and Ruiz had last night off.  I would guess they were just given a mental break as both guys have cooled off at the plate recently. As much as I would love to see them in MKE at some point, I'm not expecting it to happen right now.

It's probably going to be something like Brosseau and Cousins.

I agree. I think it makes sense to see what Mitchell can do in September. I think Ruiz has September value as a PR, but with only 2 callups now you can't have a guy like Quintin Berry back in the day that had that has his only job.

That's pretty bold. I really disliked trading away Antoine Kelly as I thought(and still think) he has a lot of upside...but man, Gasser has been incredible. I WOULD be shocked if they added him to the 40 man now or brought him up for Sept, but he has really looked great so far.

Nice to have some power on the bench from the right side, so I go with Weimer who can also give some speed and late inning defense replacement. But do they waste an option year on him? I then would go with Perdomo.  I’d love to see Feliciano with him heating up, but not sure if they would give him much catching responsibilities.  Brosseau will get called up, but maybe better to give him 3 days in Nashville. In the mean time Ruiz can be on the bench and get familiarized with the team for those 3-4 days, and not use up his rookie eligibility for next year.

He just called up to triple A. I would imagine he may be in line for an injury replacement late 2023 depending on performance. When the moves are made this afternoon, I expect to be whelmed.

Same, but I am hoping to see Ruiz at some point.

He'd give us another weapon vs LHPing...maybe. .395/.511/.816 this year vs lefties. Inflated from his time in El Paso and SA I'm sure, but he may be the only guy in AAA who can help us with that particular weakness. And he's on the 40.

I saw him pitch in Biloxi, he made a few guys look foolish with his slider.  He has a pretty good K/9 rate this year.  I think the Brewers are pretty high on him.  As I said it would be a "mind-blown" type of add this year but I could see a scenario where they pitch him out of the pen to start with and work his way into starting spot eventually.

I think he is slated to pitch tomorrow for Nashville, so I'm really interested to see how he performs

Wiemer, I predict, will be an instant fan favorite.  A 5 tool guy.  He will do what Mitchell does and take second on a routine single and hustle plays like that.  He has a cannon of a right arm and incredible power.  He started swinging the bat better recently, showing more patience at the plate, and started to lower his K rate.  Maybe we see him next year.

My predictions in order of most likely. Kelley, Perdomo, Cousins, Reyes, Feliciano. I think 2 pitchers is what they'll look at the most with this run of games. I think if they wanted Small, he wouldn't have pitched yesterday. Reyes I think they'd bring up over Ruiz as he plays multiple positions and is also really really fast...so he's maybe a slightly worse PR option than Ruiz but still exceptionally good. He's also a utility type, and we all know what CC thinks of utility types. So those are my thoughts. I'd be shocked if it was someone exciting like Turang or Frelick.
