Exposing another of the season's disappointments: the plan early in the season was for Small to be up and providing a jolt to the bullpen, if not making some spot starts.  Yet it's late August and he's being passed up for a call-up in favor of Costanza, and you can't really make a convincing case that it's not the right call.

It's like a parent saying you can have a puppy if you take care of it. I'm feeling the brewers haven't been taking good care of some of their pitchers this year.

What is your evidence for this assertion?  As far as I'm aware they are following the same plan they did last year which is don't skip starts if there is an off day available.  None of the starters has thrown an exorbitant amount of pitches in a game despite the bullpen being not so great this year.  It's baseball.  Starting pitchers get hurt.  That's why you need a lot of them.

Right. Small can't stop walking people. And when you are a finesse lefty who tops out at 91-92, that isn't a great combo.

Or the opposite... I wonder if the Brewers are especially careful with their pitchers, potentially avoiding season-ending/career-altering injuries.

Alexander looked pretty good last night. He had a horrible July, but has helped out the team a lot more than anyone would have imagined to start this season.

the evidence is the number of injuries.  Of course, I don't suggest that's their intent.

Your statement just doesn't make a lot of sense.  They were healthy last year and they followed the same procedures this year that they did last year.   It's the nature of the beast that pitchers get hurt.  That doesn't mean the Brewers were negligent.

You haven't even provided evidence the Brewers have suffered more pitching injuries than other teams.
