MLB Postseason schedule announced

Is the division series still a 2-2-1 format? Or did that change? If not, the scheduling is odd.  ALDS series each have a day off after game one (a non-travel day) and each NLDS series does not have a game off between game 4 and 5 (no travel day off).

User in-game thread post in 1st inning of 3rd game of the 2022 season: "This team stinks"

Yes. The only thing that has changed with regard to the Division Series is how teams get there. It will remain a best-of-five in a 2-2-1 format, with home-field advantage going to the higher seed.

MLB recently have done this weird scheduling where they try to stagger some of the games after game one.

My memory is that they would stagger the 1st game (with one league starting their series one day and the other league starting theirs the next). Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention last year, but I don't ever remember a series taking a day off on a non-travel day or not having a travel day off.

It maybe because of the AL being on TBS this year and the scheduling is off because of that.  It looks like it is just the AL has this weird schedule.

Playoffs favor the big bucks teams always, we know. Especially this year. These playoff teams that will be playing….
As of right now…

9 of top 12 payroll teams have a spot in the playoffs

5 of the top 12 payrolls lead their division

Payrolls #1,2, and 3 (Dodgers, Mets, Yankees) have an avg winning % of 65%.. all over 100 wins.

Avg payroll of these 3 teams - $259 million

Top winning % outside of top 10 payroll is the Cardinals at .553: 12th highest payroll and only 8th best record

Top 7 records in top 10 payroll

Cleveland (27th payroll), TB (24th), and Seattle (22nd) are the notable exceptions to the trend, although each cling to a small margin of being in the playoffs (2.5 games- Clev; 1.5 games TB and Sea)

Brewers at 19th highest payroll at 129 million and 9th best record.

No big point here…. Just thought people would want to be reminded of the big disparity in baseball.  Glad we have more teams in playoffs to offset the big money somewhat. Glad there is some revenue sharing and all. Super impressive that the Brewers have made the playoffs the last 4 years, even though this year has been somewhat of a disappointment lately.

MLB has released its postseason schedule.

Game 1 of the World Series is Friday, Oct. 28. Game 7 would be Nov. 5.

All four wild card series will be on three consecutive days, Oct. 7-9.

Each division series starts Oct. 11.

The NLCS starts Oct. 18 and the ALCS on Oct. 19.

After expanding the postseason to 12 teams and the lockout-induced late start, MLB wanted to shorten the calendar. It did so by getting rid of some travel days. So no off-days between Games 4/5 in DS and Games 5/6 in LCS. Could affect strategy. And geography could be a nightmare.

Examples: M's-Yankees ALDS. Seattle hosts Game 4 on Oct. 16, wins to force Game 5. Both teams fly from Seattle to New York and play Game 5 the next day, Oct. 17. Similar in NLCS with Mets and Dodgers. Games 3-7 are on five consecutive days -- including a cross-country flight.

Yeah those 2 days are really going to make ALL THE DIFFERENCE.

Win the first round first.

Unless Burnes pitches Game 1 of the NLDS, he pitches only 1 game in the NLDS.  He would have to pitch on short rest if he went Game 2.

He likely does not even go Game 1 NLDS because he likely pitches Game 1 NLWC, and there again he would be forced to pitch on 3 days rest.
It is huge for us if he cannot do this once or twice if we get to the postseason.

Fri   Burnes

Sat  Woody

Sun  Peralta

Mon  Off

Tues  Lauer

Wed  Burnes

Thurs  Off

Fri   Woody

Sat   Peralta

Sun.  Burnes needs a day yet so Suppan “ Soup pitched great.”

Well, the Cards/Phillies/Padres top of the rotation doesn’t scare me as much as other other teams…. Maybe they should.

I just noticed how pathetic the WC race is in the NL. Brewers are basically the only team on the outside looking in. MAYBE the Giants if they suddenly get red hot....not sure they can really catch two teams above them though.
