Luis Lara Has now been caught stealing 7 times? Huh. Jhonny Severino with two consecutive games showing clean fielding sheets - something to celebrate! Let’s keep that going, baby. DSL Brewers Uno pick up a nice victory led by three valiant pitching efforts. They move to 19-30.

Darrien Miller is back in the lead-off spot - do the T-Rats have something here? His free passes last night indicated they just may have their next lead-off man. C Jeferson Quero is back behind the dish and hoping to build off last night's first High-A hit. Metzinger, Piñero, and Acosta once again round out the infield from the hot corner on in as Zavier Warren continues filling in at first base. This is RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez's first start for Wisconsin and we're all hoping for big things for the 20-year-old hurler.

These DSL reports will be utilized in the Thursday night Link Report to be composed by Joseph --

Final: DSL Brewers #1 Squad 4, DSL Tigers #2 Squad 0, seven innings as scheduled
Box Score / Game Log

It was a combined four-hitter with ten strikeouts and just one walk for the trio of RHP's: 16-year-old Ranwell Smith, who pitched the first inning only (hopefully planned), recently turned 17-year-old Bryan Rivera, and the sage 2nd-year pro, Dominican native Gregory Baez. Smith (who turns 17 in less than two weeks) and Rivera are among the Brewer signings out of Nicaragua. The four-inning scoreless stint for Rivera was the first time in six pro appearances (four starts) that he had not allowed a run, and among the three hurlers, Rivera's command peripherals (20 K, 8 BB, 20 IP) are the strongest.

The Pizzeria Uno Crew tallied three runs in the first on only two hits, thanks to the generosity of the Tigers battery - big mix of multiple walks, wild pitches, and passed balls, with an HBP tossed in. The inning should have been more productive, but with runners on 2nd and 3rd, the final two Crew batters in the frame struck out. A Luis Watter double and Jhonny Severino RBI single added a late insurance run.

This game marked a professional debut as 19-year-old catcher Juan Rosa was the designated hitter. He went 0-for-3 with two K's and a GIDP, but hey young man, you're now a professional baseball player for the rest of time enshrined on Baseball Reference and the like. Rosa slipped under our radar, signed on August 5th, and his native country is yet to be listed on his MiLB Player Page.

Let's make sure CF Luis Lara gets a little extra baserunning attention next extended spring. His 17-year-old legs are only 6-for-13 on the basepaths.

Suspended: DSL Tigers #2 Squad 3, DSL Brewers #1 Squad 0, one out in the top of the 4th (Tigers batting)
Box Score / Game Log

This game is actually the make-up attempt of a July 1st game that never got underway, and the box score indicates this contest was cut short by rain.

Through their three trips to the plate, Crew batters are 0-for-9 with three walks.

If the league does schedule a makeup, it'll be Tuesday August 16th, the only game remaining between these two teams, though that game is at the Tigers complex. We'll see, as we're sure you'll all set your calendars to see if the Brewers can avoid the seven-inning no-hitter, which actually wouldn't qualify as a no-no under big-league guidelines.

Final: DSL Texas Blue 6, DSL Brewers #2 Squad 5, seven innings
Box Score / Game Log

The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers did all their damage in a six-run 4th against two RHP's - 20-year-old Dominican native Stanley Encarnacion was your starter, in his 4th season with the Crew and 3rd on the island (accounting for the lost 2020 campaign). Encarnacion, even after today's outing, maintains a strong 1.20 WHIP for 2022. It's been a big struggle for rookie Franddy De Los Santos however, another pitching on native turf, who allowed an inherited runner to score and then two more of his own doing..

Like in the DSL Brewers #1 Squad game, a pro debut was on the docket as 18-year-old Estefano Lozano, also listed as a catcher when not DH'ing as he was here, didn't get his first base hit, but he did draw a walk and then was plunked in his final plate appearance.

After scoring four times in the 5th on just two hits, Dos Cerveceritos Club painfully stranded two in each of the final two innings. The main blow during that four-run rally was a two-out, two-run double from catcher Eric Martinez out of the cleanup spot. The 18-year-old Venezuelan catcher is now 10-for-19 in August and has his OPS up to .841. The double was the first of those ten hits for extra bases, and Martinez has not walked during this recent stretch, but his batted balls are finding safety away from defenders.

The Mudcats are underway here in Delmarva still leading 4-0 as they picked up in the bottom-half of the fifth inning. The Delmarva pitcher just closed the top-half of the sixth inning striking out all three Mudcats - including recent draftee and promoted Alex Hall on a high heater. LHP Pablo Garabitos will begin his second inning of work here.

We have another RHP Adrian Houser rehab start to begin the first of two games tonight in Nashville. We will see the tantalizing 1-3 top of the order with Frelick, Ruiz, and Turang. We'll see CF Joey Wiemer tonight as he returns to the line-up. C Alex Jackson again calls the game behind the dish and the every-ready and reliable Pablo Reyes and Weston Wilson will also swinging bats and flashing leather.

This is from the Brewers transaction page -- usually that's an indication that these players will make their debuts in Maryvale tonight.

08/10/22 Milwaukee Brewers signed RHP Jacob Misiorowski.
08/10/22 Milwaukee Brewers signed LHP Brian Fitzpatrick.
08/10/22 Milwaukee Brewers signed RHP Will Rudy.
08/10/22 Milwaukee Brewers signed LHP Nate Peterson.
08/10/22 Milwaukee Brewers signed RHP Aidan Maldonado.

That's respectively draft rounds 2, 10, 5, 8 and 14.

I've seen him twice now, but, I'm here to tell y'all: Eric Brown Jr. has that 'It'. He has that confidence and swagger you look for. He has the build. He has the discipline at the plate and the smarts on the base paths. I really like this young man's game.

The Shuckers will look to take a 2-1 series tonight as up-and-coming lefty Ace Robert Gasser will make his second start for the Brewers Double-A club. Catcher Jason Lopez will call the game for the young hurler while we see their A-Squad throughout and elsewhere in the line-up. Can OF Corey Ray build off his fantastic 4-for-5 outing last night? Tune in and find out:

The Mudcats manage to hand the Shorebirds their 8th consecutive loss and 7th shutout of the season. LHP Pablo Garabitos manages to work around base runners in several innings by going three up and three down in the ninth grabbing his third victory of his 2022 season (3-0 overall). All told his relief line will read:

  • 5 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 4 K

Mudcats maintain the 4-0 score taking it through the ninth inning and to their fourth straight 'W'.

Esteury Ruiz is literally one of those batters who can drop down a bunt single during any AB. As he does here in the bottom of the first inning and as I've seen twice now in his short tenure with the Sounds. He is an excellent bunter - a skill I don't really see all that often at all anymore. Put it in the tool kit.

Er merrrrr gerdddd, OF Hendry Mendez is leading off for the Mudcats in Game 2?!? Be still my heart, the young man is back on the diamond. Yes Sir! He will lead-off in the DH slot of the line-up. Upstart and rising prospect Jadher Areinamo will also be back at 3B and in the line-up.

The Stripers score their first run on what I would proclaim was an error on Weston Wilson but it will be charged a throwing error to Brice Turang. Wilson was inexplicably slow to get to second base on the cover - taking a circuitous and unhurried route  He then was forced to speed up at the last second when Turang threw to the second base bag. The ball flew past Wilson down the third base line. Jon Singleton tracked it down adeptly and threw a strike to home plate grabbing out number 3. It's 1-0 Stripers on to the bottom of the second inning. I absolutely did not and do not like home plate umpire, Matt Winter's strike zone. It's all over the place and wildly inconsistent. Both dugouts have been chirping.

The Sounds are facing-off versus Braves #6 prospect, RHP Freddy Tarnok who is routinely touching 97-98 on the radar gun.

I mean, I'm not kidding on Home Plate umpire Matt Winter in Nashville: he just had a Striper hitter toss his bat to the dugout twice thinking he had walked - on a 3-1 pitch and then a 3-2 pitch. Given how he's called the game, well, they might have been strikes? LOL. This batter was tossed and the Striper skipper quickly went to discuss the aftermath. Yikes.

Robert Gasser does not have his best stuff whatsoever in this first inning. He now has 3 BB's and a double down the left field line. Shuckers trail 1-0 and the bases are juiced with one down. He's approaching a 30 + pitch first inning. He does have a K and has Hunter Jr. down 1-2. AND, he escapes getting the strikeout and then a weak dribbler to Valerio. That's what you love to see when a young stud is struggling to find the zone!

And, who other than Cam Devanney to turn quickly on a fastball and yank it into left field. He sends home Monasterio and he hits his 25th double of his season moving into a tie in 5th place for the Southern League Doubles Leaderboard.

Gasser bounces back with a 1-2-3 inning. Bookended with a first pitch weak ground-out and a strikeout. Man, his slider/splitter combo are nasty. Those pitches are going to play real nice as he matures. He threw the first slider I've seen to a lefty starting in and winding up over the middle of the dish - I'd say he added a good 5-10 mph on the pitch too.
