You should probably compare Kelly's and Gasser's BB/9 rates before getting all upset. Kelly's is almost double Gasser's and has shown no signs of going down. Meanwhile, Gasser strikes out just as many batters at a higher competition level and has three plus pitches compared to Kelly who has two at most. Kelly is not close to top of the rotation right now.

Same level, not a higher level and despite Gasser's BB/9, he's still got a lower Whip and Kelly is younger.

So maybe not close to TOR right now...but certainly a TOR type arm who was having an outstanding year...

The move isn’t indefensible but it IS puzzling. Time will tell whether it was hubris or not.

One thing fans always need to keep in mind is that we’re using, at best, 20% of the knowledge of the organization to evaluate things. Not only don’t we see personal makeup or underlying issues, our evaluation stats are rudimentary.

Absolutely and again, Stearns has earned the benefit of the doubt.

We should move on just as the Brewers need to...but the part that's annoying is the 'they really weren't that good anyway,' sentiment behind these trades. Kelly wasn't that good, walked a lot of people. Had a .179 BAA and nearly 12K per 9 in his first full year, but...eh, not that great! Hader, he was having a bad year, not the same pitcher anymore...and really, Rogers isn't that much different! I think we all know that's just not true.

Now...I'm gonna go watch another tall, lanky power lefty who struggled with walks and who everyone STILL loves in Ashby! Hopefully this topic dies and Ashby and the Brewers pitchers can change the topic.

No one said Kelly was close to top of the rotation NOW...  That was not a fair comment.

Stearns has absolutely earned the benefit of the doubt but I pretty strongly disagree with the Bush/Kelly trade.

I also acknowledge that I’m not a professional baseball analyst and will sit back and watch the situation unfold before declaring myself unequivocally correct.

Bush simply is a very pedestrian pitcher. He's really no different that Gustave.

They are probably similar - yes.  Those pitchers do have value.

Relief pitchers in general are pretty hit or miss.  Having a lot of average to above average relievers gives you an opportunity to hit on a few more of those - or have a good run(Milner).
