Omar to IL, Mario Feliciano called up

Despite being listed as active, Jackson hasn't played since July 16.  This coincides with his rehab assignment in Nashville ending and being optioned.  So something is up there.

Feliciano has been adequate offensively, but showing very little power.  Subpar defensively.  I was hoping for Reetz.

Reetz isn't on the 40-man. And even with Severino being removed, they still have 4 catchers on the 40-man roster.

Say what you will about the moves Stearns made at the deadline, but he sure does look like a buffoon with how he managed the roster. Hanging on to three catchers through the deadline then DFA’ing one, trading for a pitcher, activating him then DFA’ing him the next day.

LOL that is a little ironic.

I wonder if Reetz will be activated tomorrow, and Feliciano returned to the taxi squad?

Would imagine, there is no real need to add Reetz to the 40 man if they don't plan to bring him to Milwaukee.

I'm still stumped by the trade and DFA of Lamet, but I'd bet money they held onto Severino to the deadline hoping to use him as trade bait.  Otherwise, why bother activating him at all? We already had 2 catchers playing better than him.

I'd still take Feliciano over Severino.  Feliciano will probably hit about the same, but at least has some upside to him.

What team would possibly want Severino this season to begin with?

He can't play in the playoffs, so that pretty much eliminates any team still in the hunt.

A team with no hopes in making the playoffs wouldn't want to give up anything for him.

Why would the Brewers hang onto him hoping for a trade when there is literally no one that would want him.

It will be interesting to see if anyone claims him.

Narvaez was the one in the trade rumors. If they had traded him, Severino could've been the backup with Feliciano getting reps in the minors, then bring Feliciano up in time to be on the playoff roster.

Of course with full Murphy's Law in effect, the day after the cut him, they need him.

Because he's still controllable through arbitration next year. Considering the sorry state of of catching in MLB, and the fact that he's not a dumpster fire with the bat, he'd find a job.

I wouldn't call him a buffoon, but I will give you EVERYTHING he has done this week has backfired. Everyone has those weeks, but he did his on a national stage.

Right...I don't like some of the moves, but it's just the WORST possible luck making these look as bad as humanly possible. Williams gives up his first run in...what, 30 outings. Bush has gotten beat up. They make a trade they apparently didn't anticipate so Lamet goes down, then the catcher they were trying to trade gets hurt after they DFA the FA they signed.

The Baseball Gods must have not liked the Hader trade as they're punishing the Brewers as much as they can for them thus far.

look, maybe the silverlining in all of this is scaring off other owners trying to take him from us?

They would have to add him to the 40 man by the end of the year I believe or he can become a minor league free agent.  Not 100% sure on this.

I think the Mets would take him in a heartbeat. Like i said, bad luck rather than incompetence. I have seen incompetent GM’s as a brewer fan. Stearns / Arnold are not.

It is funny though, salary was a driving force in the trade of Hader in the first place and in the wake of that move the Brewers eat the contracts of Lamet, Severino and are paying Rosenthal who may or may not ever pitch for them.

I seriously doubt the Baseball Gods have ever liked the Brewers.  ?

This whole sequence of catcher moves was/is so awkward, I wonder whether some other move didn't fall through at the last minute.  Carrying three catchers for so long seemed sketchy, but the team clearly thought they could use one as part of a deal, even if it was just for a low level nugget type.

But then they've done awkward roster construction like this before, of course.  See, e.g, the Thames, Aguilar, Choi era pre DH, or the overlapping Shaw and Moose period.  They have always been able to make something work and/or use the surplus in trade, but it always felt like it would come back to bite them at some point.  It figures that would be in the midst of a close division race amidst a confusing trade deadline.

I’d rather see Reetz called up

Hopefully, someone on the 40-man will be DFA’d & he will be added

His bat has been much stronger this year … even if that was primarily in AA Biloxi

It would be awesome if Reetz becomes the “bat” the Brewers should have acquired at the trade deadline
