Cubs not moving Happ or Contreras

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

LOL Cubs…….

At least they will get a comp pick for Contreras?  Seems like a waste to me.  I think the Cubs were asking for more than what Contreras was worth.

Or, they have a handshake agreement with the agents that they'll re-sign.

Unlikely, the cubs front office has been trash even in Theo's last few years...and especially since he bolted and left a giant mess for the next guy which is typical for him at this point. It sure is fun to see them with a meh system and their top guys underperforming go go with mostly aaaa talents at the mlb level. It's gonna be a bit before they are good again. Not getting value for Contreras won't help.

The Cubs did Willson Contreras dirty. Now his FA market value will be depressed by a QO and his body has to keep taking a pounding while playing in meaningless games for the rest of the season. If I was Contreras I would take the rest of the season off with an "injury."

The Cubs are truly a disgraceful organization.

Not sure Contreras is really going to be hurt by a QO. He is probably looking at a long enough and big enough contract most teams won't care.

He won't go unsigned before the season starts as happened to Stephen Drew, Craig Kimbrel, and Dallas Keuchel. But the loss of draft capital by a signing team will make offers to him less lucrative.

Yasmani Grandal got 4 years and 73 million dollars at age 31, somebody will give Contreras that kind of money regardless of the QO. I hope its Chicago or St. Louis.

What is the real value of that pick? How much does a team that can spend a boatload of money on a catcher really care about that? I just think Contreras is good enough and is looking at a big enough contract it shouldn't do to much to his market. But the moods of teams on QOs is really goofy year to year.
