That's good, Soto not going to the Cardinals is a win in my book.

Also maybe now that this Soto drama is resolved that frees things up and trades around the league starts flowing a bit more. Only saying that the trading in general seems to be more centered around pitching than hitters.

Gonna be fun eliminating them in the WC round.

I had this thought immediately, that we might have to deal with Soto in the wildcard round if SD is the 6 seed. I feel like they are more likely to be the 5 seed especially adding Soto, but still a legit concern.

This return seems light to me at first, adding Gore makes it seem really bad for SD though.

I was wondering how Washington accepted, but Gore wasn't included initially.   Makes a lot more sense now.

I could be wrong, but it looks to me like the Padres are going for it.

Hosmer. Wouldn't be surprised if he was dealt again today. He was a salary dump, and the Nats have no use for him.

Yeah, Hosmer makes a ton of sense.

That is a ton to give up (without regard to Hosmer), and I still love it for San Diego (assuming they can sign Soto).

that is a HAUL.  Getting Gore is a pretty big get.  I honestly didnt think they'd part with him

The best relief pitcher in baseball is dealt in a surprise move, and not only is it overshadowed by a much larger deal less than 24 hours later, it was overshadowed with a move by the same team!

The Padres farm system is decimated now. If they don't drop substantially in the system strength ratings, it is proof of just how useless those ratings actually are.

Nats got 3 high 1st round picks (Hassell, 8th overall in 2020,  Abrams 6th in 2019, and Gore 3rd in 2017) along with a 2nd round pick (Wood).  Seems like a decent haul for them.  Even if the Brewers were inquiring, I don't think they had the same pieces to offer.

Washington is going into rebuild with the Hosmer, Corbin, and Strasburg contracts on the books. Even with a lot of good prospects, they're probably looking at a few seasons to get through those contracts before they really expect to put any money into trying to be competitive.

With Gore and Abrams already up, and some of their top prospects still only teenagers, it'll be interesting to see how they work things.

Yeah, that's why the thoughts of the Brewers getting Soto were a pipe-dream. The Nats wanted young talent and the Brewers don't have enough of it to compete in a deal like this.
