Optimizing Batting Order

With Yeli and Wong starting to hit better and Renfrow on fire I think it would be best if Counsil re-configured the lineup. Essentially it is time to move Adames, Tellez, and Cutch out of the 2,3,4 spots. Adames at 2 is insane to me, Tellez has been a below average bat when when you take out his 4 multi-homer games, and Cutch has been solid as of late but a lack of power makes him ideal at 2.

This probably a couple days early but our usual lineup should probably be....

1)Wong 2)Cutch 3)Yeli 4) Renfrow 5) Rowdy/Brousseau 6)Adames 7)Catcher ? Urias 9)Taylor

I would be ok with flopping Adames to 8 with Urias.

I think Adames is hitting second because he hit well there last season & CC believes he'll get going. I think he will, if he can just lock into the RF swing & get away from being overly aggressive at the plate. If he can take a page out of the book Wong has been reading since the break it'll serve him well. I think he knows this; the execution is just real sporadic. People like Schroeder talk about how if you are willing to go the other way, you'll eventually get pitches to pull. I think someone needs to tell Willy you need to do it for more than 3 ABs.

With the way Yelich has been performing in the leadoff spot I'd be shocked if they mess with that.

I agree Cutch could hit second, but I'd give Adames a little more time. There's also Counsells' thing about going L-R-L-R-L-R. If he stays with that & Yelich leads off, is Wong a better bet than Tellez in the 3-hole?

Why on earth would we even consider moving Yelich out of the leadoff spot at this point? The guy has been seemingly reenergized and leads MLB in OBP by a leadoff hitter since he was moved there. He's been everything you want in a leadoff hitter....

And I bet they don't bother because why on earth would we change anything? They're 7-3 over the last 10 and have been mashing.

Keep Yelich where he is. Hard to know if it's actually hitting leadoff that's making him perform better or if that's a coincidence, but I don't want to risk finding out. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. He gets on base, he runs the bases well, keep him where he is.

As for the rest, you could make a solid case for Cutch at 2, or some other adjustments. But the truth is that it really has minimal impact. The difference between even a semi-reasonable lineup and the optimal lineup is miniscule. And I think that's even more true for a team like the 2022 Brewers, i.e a team full of 100-115 wRC+ type hitters. No black holes or even weak spots, but also no superstar type hitters. The more homogenized a lineup is, the less the batting order matters.
