Not sure where to put this, but given that the only thing in this thread is going to be the predictability of hits being easier to come by after Mogollon and Reyes exit the game:

There has been a lot of talk about power in the draft thread, so I thought I would look at who in the system is providing some. Among guys with at least 100 player appearances, 12 have an ISO of .200 or better. I divide them into three groups:

The MLB veterans

Abraham Almonte, .241

Tyler White, .231

Jon Singleton, .227

These guys are basically just doing what is expected

The repeaters (guys repeating a level)

Jakson Reetz, .329

Cam Devanney, .223

Eduarqui Fernandez, .218

Brent Diaz, .200

These are a little more promising, especially a guy like Devanney who suffered from being over promoted last season.

New to their level

Jace Avina, .280

Jackson Chourio, .270

Alexander Perez, .241

Luis Castillo, 229

Joey Wiemer, .212

The two full season guys are obvious. Avina definitely has some pop, but needs to cut down on the K’s. Perez and Castillo are interesting in that their DSL numbers didn’t even make them look like locks to come stateside this season, but if they can keep this up they will definitely be ones to watch at Carolina next year.

Awesome post. I'm sneakily extremely interested in Brent Diaz as a sleeper catcher prospect. He's performed all season - at both Double and Triple-A. He really has savvy behind the dish and has just been generally solid with the bat since a ho-hum April with only 36 AB's. Coming off an extremely hot May - ableit in limited playing time (which, is perhaps more impressive?) - he was shelved for 2 1/2 weeks on June 15th - so there was disruption there. Anyhow, all this to say: I like him and he is enjoyable to watch play baseball. ?

This was the 6th addition of DSL Brewers-1 vs. DSL Brewers-2 in 2022, with DSL Brewers-1 earning its first victory (4-2 in 7 innings) in this year‘s series.

It was also Round 2 of starting pitchers Osbriel Mogollon (1.21 season ERA) vs. Anfernny Reyes (1.10 season ERA) - aka Pity the Hitters.

The 18-year old southpaws were solid as always, combining for 8 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 4 H, 5 BB, 3 WP, 10 Ks. Each allowed one earned run and while Mogollon didn’t allow a hit to the outfield, he also threw the three wild pitches and exited down 2-1 on a pair of sacrifice flies.

DSL Brewers-1 brought home three runs in the 5th inning to claim the 4-2 lead, which would hold up. SS Jhonny Severino (.787 season OPS) hit his second double of the game to start that rally.

3B Richard Rojas hit the clutch 2-out, 2-run single which gave DSL Brewers-1 a 3-2 lead. The inning also featured two hit batsmen, a wild pitch, walk and a balk.

DSL Brewers-2 did put two runners on in the 5th inning and loaded the bases in the 6th inning, but couldn’t get the key hit, going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position in the game (though DSL Brewers-1 wasn’t much better at 1-for-13).

18-year old LHP Jhofez Mejias inherited that bases loaded, 2-out situation in the 6th inning, inducing a ground out to escape, then retiring the side in the 7th inning to earn his first save.

And some ACL highlight offerings from BPD Twitter:

Interestingly, coming into July Yujanyer sported a 12.96 era. After this most recent outing, he has that down to 6.95 (3.29 era in 3 starts so far in July). WHIP is down to a respectable 1.10 but he is still conceding just over a hit per inning with batters hitting 0.288 in July and 0.337 on the season.

Also of note: Zero errors for Severino manning SS today. Always a plus given how that has gone this year to date. ?
