In a standard limited action Monday, let's get a sneak peak at some recent BPD twitter clips. Featuring the current fantastic stretch of play from LHP Russ Smith (quick thought here: Given Russ was accustomed to warmer and muggier weather pitching, i seriously wonder if the uber-cold and gross Upper Midwest spring had a major part in his early woes):

AND, one of our early DSL favorites in LHP Obsriel Mogollon - who, if we're being open and honest, gives off serious Andy Otero vibes. This is a good thing. Andy has been fantastic in extended action for Nashville.

It's good to see things coming together for our DSL clubs - with 2 wins today, they're now a combined 24-25 overall. And today's wins were in spite of usual studs having off days (Luis Lara 0-5, Yeison Perez 0-3, Arnys Rodriguez 0-5, Jhonny Severino 0-4). Plus, 2022 big bonus man Johan Barrios returned to action after a 21-day absence.

Rookie leagues tend to generate weird stat lines, but Jhonnys Cabrera’s takes the cake. The guy has two singles in 29 plate appearances as his only hits but his OPS is better than .600 because he walks so much that if he reaches in his next at bat his OPS will be .500.

Do you mean OBP?

Yep. Got distracted while posting. OBP. It would never actually happen at the big league level, but hypothetically I wonder if a team would play a guy who reaches base half the time but provides no power and rarely even puts the ball in play. I have a minor fascination with statistical oddities in sports, and while he doesn't have enough plate appearances to make this appear to be sustainable even at the complex league level, it caught my eye.

Due to a major technical issue, about an hour's worth of my detailed Arizona League analysis was lost and will not be recovered. I was able to salvage DSL activity. You can find the box score links for the Arizona League games above including Garrett Mitchell's latest rehab outing. Please do your best to peruse yourself. Unfortunately, there will not be a formal Link Report today.

Final: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 7, DSL Texas Red 3

Any time a 17-year-old LHP can go out and throw six innings on one-run ball with only two walks, sign us up. This was Venezuelan native's Anthony Flores' fifth time on a pro mound, and he dealt, striking out three in his efficient effort.

Though he was only 0-for-3 with a walk, a big "welcome back" to one of the big bonus signings from the most recent international class, Johan Barrios, playing third base here. Just his 12th game overall, and first since June 20th.

Second-year catcher Brayan Oropeza clubbed his third home run in just 39 at-bats this summer, and the 18-year-old's OPS in that still-small sample is nonetheless 1.050.

Final: DSL Brewers #1 Squad 9, DSL Cubs Red 2

You can dig into the game log specifically this morning to review the three-run 5th and six-run 7th for the good guys. When you do, you'll see the Team Uno club received a lot of help via bases on balls.

Nice to see them back in action after some undefined postponements Friday and Saturday.

19-year-old RHP Kevin Briceno now has a 2.17 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in a healthy two-season sample of 54 innings. 16-year-old RHP Mexican RHP Manuel Rodriguez (17 next month) now has three consecutive scoreless outings, with a three-inning stretch-out here.

It's rare we point out opponent names at the rookie level, but Cubs' catcher Yoanis Aleksandrov's name caught my eye. Turns out he's from Bulgaria, and is now unfortunately 0-for-26 with 19 K's in this, his rookie season; he'll be 18 years old later this month.

The two Brewers Dominican teams face each other Tuesday.
