July top prospect voting!

7 hours ago, Brock Beauchamp said:

It's something we're still sorting out. We wanted to try once a month to see if there is interest in doing it. If not, we will change course.

Naturally, we didn't expect every person to participate every month. It's more of a fun thing to do than a requirement or anything. If people stop finding it fun, we'll do it less often.

Not that it's not fun, simply that it's an investment of an hour or two, if I want to do a good job.

I understand. By the way, have you noticed that we have daily updated stats and splits on the prospect tracker page? That helps keep abreast of recent performance at a glance.

Also, if Turang and Small have solid Julys, the first round pick will likely enter my list at No. 9, which feels like a real positive.

Good observation & really speaks to the increased depth of legit prospects in the system. Here’s where previous Stearns & company FRPs have debuted on BF.netcom prospect rankings…

Corey Ray (#7), Keston Hiura (#4), Brice Turang (#5), Ethan Small (#4), Garrett Mitchell (#1) and Sal Frelick (#6).

I believe someone said it in a different thread, but outside of the top 10-12 there really was zero consensus. It felt like there had to be a lot of guys who nearly made the list, everyone from a pop up prospect who just keeps hitting (Devanney) to a guy currently on pace to set a record for OPS in at least this iteration of the Brewers’ DSL squad (Lara). One thing I miss in this new format is not seeing the also-ran votes.

Wanted to double back on this now that the picks are in. Looks like Brown will probably be around #10 on my August ballot. He was born a week before Valerio & they have similar-ish profiles, but Felix is already at AA posting encouraging age appropriate results.

Given how competitive the back half of the list is for me, think that Misiorowski (motion to henceforth refer to him simply as "ORO") will have to start posting some results to go along with the electric stuff before he cracks my list.

Feel like Patricio Aquino is going to skyrocket up these lists in time. Really like what he has to work with at 19 years old. Of course, we need to see him in affiliated ball outside of the complex league but the kid's got swing and miss stuff.

It will be interesting how the lists look with the new draftees and potentially some trade deadline activity (could lose some).  I think I would find spots for Misiorowski, Brown, Jr, and Wood.  Rudy, Metzinger (underrated) and Moore are guys I’m intrigued by and could jump in there with some early production..

Good catch. I like him. I think I had him between 20-25 and made an edit and lost him through an editing error.  Sorry about that.

No problem, I was just curious because I had a twitter discussion with someone who said he doesn't understand why people are high on him and doesn't like him much....then I'm on other end of spectrum and probably too high on him lol so like to see where differences are on view points of prospects.

Sidenote on Mendez

I was going back and looking at stuff yesterday and found it pretty interesting digging back into him. He is only 4 months older than Chourio and Brewers had advanced him faster up to this point (soon to change now with Chourio making a joke out of A ball pitching). He was best hitter in DSL last year and promoted halfway and then was basically top hitter in Arizona at 17 winning complex player of the year. Was youngest player to make Carolina to start season. So Brewers must be really high on him internally. Walks a ton, doesn't strike out much. Hits ball hard with a lot of contact. Projectable body to add strength.  Speed and power are whats lacking currently. He doesn't offer much on the bases and drives ball into ground too much currently. Don't see him being a CF in future. If he can develop more loft to his swing though and get stronger think he could really jump up rankings. So far in July he's really gotten hot hitting .333, with a .793 OPS and only 4 ks in 67 PA's, hopefully he can finish out the year trending up like this!

He is among the top 10 in swinging strike rate in the minors at 18. If he could even lower his ground ball rates to where Frelick and Black are, there is definitely something there.
